Im looking to buy a different cam something that will give me a rough idle. I found one in Doug Herbert catalog I dont have the exact specs with me but there is two cams there that I want to get. I Want to know what gives you the rough idle more dur. or less dur. or the lobe seperation.
and bad low end torque, and the need for stall converters, and the need for expensive valvetrane, clearance checking, bigger intakes, etc. an engine is a system- you change one thing- like a cam- you have to change a whole lot of other things with it to get it to work.
Well instead of Talking crap, Ill give you some real info. I had a 302 with a comp 270h magnum cam, it was a regrind from delta cams and with lifters it was less than $100. It had a great sounding idle, especially with my Gear drive and dumped turbo muffs. The specs were 270*/270* adv dur. 224/224 @.050 and .500/.500 lift 110 lobe sep. There was a slight loss of REAL low end torque, but the thing really hit hard around 2500-3000 and pulled all the way to 6000, all through stock early heads. The idle starts to get choppy around 220*@.050 with 110 lobe sep on cams, but it also depends on your engine. A 270h would be an awesome cam in a 351w, but wont have as much of a chop as a 302. If you are looking for chop, the higher the @.050 combined with the lower the Lobe sep, will increase the chop.
check into comp cams new series called "thump r " cams. Supposedly, they have good "chop" without sacrificing your bottom end torque. I personally have not used them, but they advertise this as being great sounding cams while keeping your power where it needs to be.
