I'm running a tank of B99 right now. It was about 30 this morning and it started right up. My fuel system has been clean it's whole 200,000 miles and the tank was almost spotless after about 125,000 when I did the in tank and pre pump mods. We get pretty good fuel in CA due to the changeout of all the fuel station tanks a few years ago. The BIO I get from the pump has a big (bigger than our oil filters) filter right on it that filters it right before it goes into the hose. I haven't noticed an increase in vacuum on my Dahl filter and I have looked.
But still well worth it for yourself, friends, and family?
Not for me since I value my time more. I want the convenience of going to the pump, pay with credit card, pump gas and go away. I don't want the mess and what not.
My step dad just retired, and has been having some health issues, and he's bored. I'm thinking that if I get the setup, he can play and we both can save some $$$

Well, if that is the case, go for it. Only issue is that will it still be fun when you have to do it vs when you want to do it?

To each his own. This is why it has been so successful for me, others relying on convienence.
I spend 6 hours once every two weeks, collecting and brewing my own. That is it 2 times a month. I do it on my day at home with the kids, we play in the back yard and such while the oil heats up etc. I take the difference at the pump vs my cost and put that money in a seperate account. That money buys all my supplies and then anything the trucks need, tires mods, registration, shocks etc. So it doesn't come out of our regular checking account and mess with the budget when I get PMS.
The best part is I do not send any of my American dollars oer to a country who wages war against my own countrymen. So to each his own. But ask your neighbors wife while he is over risking his life in a country who hates him how convienent it is to her that you may have paid for the bullet who killed him?

Just my opinion
That is exactly why I spent 40 cents a gallon more on my last fillup to get B99.

Does it matter really? What you won't buy, someone else will. So it is not as tho you are depriving Saudi Arabia of any money. The only difference is that it comes from one account instead of another. What you won't buy, China and India will. So, what difference will it make? Now, if we don't buy it and it sits idle, you have a point. Other than that, you have won a phyrric victory. I don't waste my time with phyrric victories.
A 5% decrease in the demand for oil would cause the world market to crash. That would deprive the Saudis of pretty much all their income. The demand for oil is not really elastic. Each person who buys a tank of fuel does so because they need it, not because the price is good. If one person changes from Petrol to Bio then that measurable amount of Petro fuel remains on the market. Sure the market itself is huge, but to say that someone else will buy it is not technically correct.
Alternative fuels are going full speed ahead in the US right now. Nearly 20% of all the corn grown in the US is for Ethanol.
Think China won't buy it? Think again. China and India are all for us being independent of oil because they need it at this time. We take less, more for them.
