Question Fuel Pump Stuck

I have a 95 F350 PSD that has developed a fuel leak. I have read all the related posts and identified the problem .... a bad fuel pump. I am in the process of replacing it, but I encountered an unexpected problem .... I can't seem to get it off. I removed all connections to the fuel pump, and it will wiggle back and forth, but it will not pick up off of the engine block. Does anyone have any useful tips on removing this pesky pump? Many Thanks,

JP

Just pull and twist. Maybe get a bar in their. Just be careful not to lose the lifter when it all comes out.

Make sure you get the banjo bolt off the back end of it. There are two steel lines attached to it that will allow it to move a little but not come out. Go slow. Move carefully through this next step. Removing the pump is the dangerous time when you can drop the push rod down into the engine. It rides on top of the camshaft and a cam pushes it up and down which activates the pump. A lot of guys like to turn the engine over by hand at this point to have the pushrod aid you in lifting the pump and then stop the engine turning when the pushrod is at its highest point so it minimizes the chance of having the rod fall down into the engine. There is also a little rubber hose down low that is hard to see. There are three all together. I usually just cut the lower one with side cutters since I am going to be replacing it anyway. If you want to try to save it for a spare in your road kit you can usually get to the clamp with a long thin screwdriver because they had to tighten it that way when they installed the pump in the first place. When you install the new pump you have to tighten the bottom hose onto the fitting under the pump first and then install the pump with the hose sticking out and going onto the fitting as you lower the pump into position on top of the pushrod.

I ended up moving the fuel tower. You might use a small pry-bar to get it out.

Thanks for the tips ... especially the one about the push rod! I got er off and replaced tonight. It took some working (I guess 12 years of grime and buildup will do that to you) but it eventually popped up. Thanks again,

JP
