Hey guys hows it going. The old girl has let me down. Went to leave for work yesterday and noticed my battery light was on and the amp meter was low. Checked the voltage and sure enough no charge. All wires looked good so i decided to change the voltage regulator. Did that today and no change. So i figure the alt. must be bad. So put new one on and still no charge Ihave checked all the fuses under the hood and all for the charge field are fine. I'm gonna try and replace the plug on the alt. incase its a bad wire. I also checked the fusable link and checks out fine. Any ideas guys?? Thanks in advance Lancer
the plugs on ford for the alternators have been the fault sometimes ,just incase do me a favor, check the battery's, you might also have a relay, check these and get back to me i am going to do some research for you!
Thanks buddy i appreciate your help. The batteries are only a couple of years old. There 850cc amps. All conections look good on posts. It just stopped like that no warning. The truck started fine and i let it warm up a bit. I didn't notice the light until i went leave so i can't say if it was working when i first started the truck. I'll keep looking.
Well i dug out my manual for the truck and lookes at the scematic for the charging system. All the fuses i checked were all fine. I checked one fusable link and it was fine. There is one i didn't check so i'll check it in the morning. The link in the main charge wire is fine. I'm sure its something simple just a matter of finding it. I'm not mad that i bought a new alt. I'm sure the i took off was the original and the truck has 295,000 km on it. There was not much of the brushes left and the bearing had a bit of play so its preventative maintenance.Anyways if i come with anything i'll let you know!
OK i think i have it fixed. It was a bad feed wire to the charge field. I jump it my trouble light and started charging. I have pulled the fuse box under the hood apart and have found the fuse. I am going to run a new wire form the fuse to the alt. I have to go to the doctors so i don't have time to fix it now but i'll let you now how i make out. Thanks for your help again i appreciate it. Lancer
Hey bones318v8 i got it fixed. It was that wire i mentioned earlier. There is 2 wires the plug into the alternator. One is orange and one is green. The green is from the pcm and the orange is 12v power for the charge field. It is run off fuse #5 under the hood. I pulled the fuse box apart and ran a new wire from the fuse to the alt. Now it is back to normal. I hope this may help someone in the future.Lancer
