I purchased and installed an AEM Brute Force intake system on my ’06 F-350. The system for this truck does not include the heat shield. I noticed the turbo spools up quicker off the line, which is great, but I lost mpg. It runs 1-2 mpg less around town and I lost 2mpg on the highway. I ran the same route round trip across the state at the same speeds and driving style. The only difference was the truck was loaded less for the trip with the new intake.
Am I wrong for expecting more mileage? I checked their website and it basically says it helps 10% over a dirty filter. My factory one was still pretty clean.
Should I have disconnected the batteries to reset the computer?
Would a heat shield help? The website says the product for this truck gets no benefit from a shield or box so it is not included.
I noticed the sealed end of the filter is right up against the hole through the radiator support that the stock filter went through to get colder air. Maybe I need to open up this area for more cold air from the front of the truck? Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Mark, am I just SOL thinking it would help my mileage then? Is there anything I can do or do I need to replace it with a different intake to up the mpg and performance? I know it’s a different animal entirely but the K&N cold air intake on my wife’s Daytona gave us about 3 to 4 mpg and a nice seat of the pants feel.
I bought a JOBE intake primarily because it comes with a recalibrated MAF matched to the inlet tube flow for the 6.0L PSD. I believe (and some will say I'm smokin dope) the reason you get less mileage with a lot of the AM intakes is they throw the OEM MAF out of cal since there is more airflow to the MAF then the OEM intake allows. I just did a 400 mile round trip on flat land and got 20.5 MPG. I did a 2000 mile round trip back in November and got 19.7 MPG down and and 20.2 MPG back. I do have several mods and a tuner but I have always got good mileage with my X.
My turbo whistle turns heads and at idle I have been told my exhaust sounds like a small jet engine running and it does. I LOVE IT!!!!
Unlike stock I actually hear my turbo turning at idle. When mine was stock I could hear the turbo if I really listened or put it under a hard accel like pulling my boat out of the water. But that is nothing compared to what it is now and it is pure whistle with no flutter. I wish I could easily put an audio clip on the site. You would see what I mean. The only time I really hear it is on initial acceleration. Then I hardly hear it unless I'm in an enclosed area like a tunnel or next to an 18 wheeler. Driving down the road I do not hear it. I only hear it and it does the head turning on initial acceleration. I'm 59 years young and don't want that whistle all of the time. But it sure sounds sweet on acceleration! OBTW, I got my turbo whistle after I installed my MBRP 4" turbo back exhaust.

how much louder does it sound than the stock intake?? just trying to decide if i want to take the risk....dont think i will since some have lost mpg but i already have a TB so i know about the mini jet...my mom tells me my truck sounds like it is gonna take off into the air..
