OK, here you go. I had hard staring problems with my father's 01 expy. After cleaning the MAF, IAC, pressure checking the fuel pump, changing the spark plugs we finally found out it was the VAPOR CANISTER!!! It got clogged up somehow and even if they tried to shoot air inside it wouldn't clean it. I changed it myself and after that the expy has been starting up like a champ.
With my father's expy, it would start up fine early morning but once you used it and tried to restart it, it would take 2,3 or even 4 times to start the darn thing. You may want to look into that...
I've been having the exact same problem with my 1999 Expy. With very careful listening, I could hear the fuel pump prime sometimes, and hear absolutely nothing other times. I then got very good at predicting whether the Expy would start or not. Now, its gotten to the point that I never hear the fuel pump. It's got good ground, and has power, so I guess the next step is to replace the fuel pump. The Problem is, there's about 2/3 a tank in there, and I can't get a siphon tube into the tank. It seems to hit something and stops when I insert it. Anyone have any tips?
yeah, i was already planning on using 2 floor jacks. I just wish i could get that damned fuel out before dropping it. Maybe once the Expy is on jackstands I'll have an easier time getting to the base of the filler neck at the tank and maybe I can siphon it that way.
Well, once I got the truck up on stands, the solution became apparent. Remove the section of hose from the filler tube and the dank, the screen is on the filler tube, so siphon directly from the tank. It actually took me longer to get the gas out than drop the tank. Then new pump is in, and the EXPY is happy again.
