hello, i made a post in the van forum because im thinking about buying an e150 conversion soon for trips. i was convinced to go with a 4.6 and not to go with a 6cyl because i drive a lot of interstate on trips through the mountains and such. wont be doing much towing, just family trips.
so my question is.....ive never owned one of the modular v-8s, what year 4.6's should i stay away from if any. ive heard the 97-99 4.2's are trouble, but what about the 4.6? is there anything to watch out for with these motors, and how hard is it to do maintenence on them? thanks
also what kind of tranny would come in a 97-00 e150 and are they reliable also?
Both engines and tranny's are pretty reliable. They have been around since 91/92 in Crown Vic's, Grand Marquis and Town Cars. The 2000-up have better heads and such that make a bit more power. The tranny would probably be a 4R70W.
