radio removal

radio removal

how do i remove the radio in my 1987 f250? i want to put a aftermarket cd player in. i just don't know how the stocker comes out

That shouldn't have the locking stereo. If therer are four small holes in front of the stereo (two on each side) then you will need the tool to unlock it. Simply insert tool into holes until it locks into stereo and pull out.
If it dosen't have the locking stereo, remove the dash cover around stereo by removing any phillips screws that you may see, then prying around the edges to unclip the dash trim.
You're factory stereo should have four screws, or small bolts to unscrew to remove.

ok thank you it doesn't have the 4 little ford holes. i'll try that dash ring thanks for the response

using a small screwdriver, pry the dash cover off of the radio/heater section. once you have that off, you will see 4 screws holding the radio in, 2 on each side.

do u know what the colors are for the back of the radio if i want to add a aftermarket radio?

To make it easier, you should get the appropriate wiring harness (Metra or Scosche brands are what "I" use) A good Matching harness will already be labelled on the wires or have a cut-sheet on the package.

yes it is. i keep it bookmarked in favorite places so it can be easily found. it seems like at least once a week i have someone coming over to get a new radio installed, and that sit has saved me a lot of time.
