I have a 427 side oiler that a friend would like to buy. This engine hasn't been started in 25 years, so I'm sure it would have to be rebuilt. I have no idea what it would be worth. Can anybody help?
It's prolly worth anywhere between 5 to 8 dollars. I know it doesn't sounds like much.....because it isn't! The 427 has really depreciated in value the last 35+ years.
Tell ya what thou.....I'll give ya $50 and that will help pay for shipping to my place.
thats a really hard one too call, depending on what all may be inside the motor ? Unless you know it an unmolested stabdard bore 427 sideoiler!
But I think some of the gard core 427 guys could answer that alot better than I could. I am into the 428's
Paging Scooter or Glenn, I think Numbers Dummy has a very good idea on the current event;s on thses blocks..I know Glenn (FFR428) does also...
I'l sure one of them will chime in.... LMAO!! Swift !! That was slick Bro !!!
But I think you might be supprised on what it worth...But I do know that they have come down alot because of the New Shelby, Pond, and Genesis blocks that are made to handle alot more power....But if a guys doing a true resto project and wants a Numbers correct motor and your falls into that catagory..Big Bucks...
Russ is right the date code of the parts could be key in value. If this is a 65-67 date code sideoiler or other? The 427's and parts were available thru the mid to late 70's. Maybe later and I'm sure Bill can chime in for sure on a more exact timeframe on that. The parts were available as over the counter parts with date codes into the 70's. Really the block, heads, intake, and carbs factor the most for desirable date codes. The crank, rods, pistons can bring a good buck if nice. Ex: steel crank, LeMans rods etc... You also need to get the casting numbers/date codes off the block, heads, intake, carbs, crank, rods, pistons, oilpan everything to get an exact price. You also need to check it's not a marine or industrial engine/parts as Barry mentioned. The block could be a cast sideoiler but drilled as a topoiler etc.. Those parts price a little less. Condition of everything as the guys said also key. Then you need to decide how good a friend this guy is and what kind of deal you offer him. Remember....a friend will help you move....a GOOD friend will help you move a body. JK....LOL
