Unhappy Pushrod problems

Let me start by telling you what I have. It is a mildly built 390 with an Edelbrock performer package and headers. The engine ran fine when it was stock, but problems came up when we put the performer camshaft in. When we started it up, it ran really rough. We did a compression test and discovered that a couple of the valves were not closing. We put shorter pushrods in those cylinders and it ran quite a bit better, but still feels like it misses a little bit. My problem is that I am having trouble getting the right pushrods in the motor. It seems like some of them are still too tight while others are so loose that they rattle. My question is, Is it common for engine builders to not grind the all valves to the same height? Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so what did you do? Also, is there anywhere that I can get an adjustable rocker arm setup?

i just ordered adjustable rockers for my 390 from jegs, but since my block is cracked it will probably be awhile before i get it all back together,the rockers are a bit pricey for a daily driver but i think they will eliminate a lot of valvetrain problems

dscmotorsports sells them and also Summitracing has them. You are looking at about $300. You will need to get ball/cup pushrods also.

napa has them by the rack or one at a time..I keep two behind my seat you will new push rods also..good luck
