Does anybody besides myself like having vent windows like the pre '97 trucks had? i wish Ford would bring them back. I've rode in chevys without them and I dont like it. You either can't get enough air or you get too much. With the vent windows you dont have the wind blowing you away, and if you need more air you can open them and force air in the cab. Just another reason I like old trucks.
I'll tell you what I miss are those big old floor vents down in the kick panels. They let in 10 times the air that you get through the dash vents in modern vehicles!
Hey ya Ford had the high beam low beam on the floor it was great loved it a few big rigs have em that way today.... i think it was a prob of water effecting em and them sticking from mud, snow, and crap... i want one in my 99
I have the vent windows on my 90 Bronco, they are nice to have but they also make it really, really easy for someone to get into your vehicle. That is how I got back into my truck when I locked my keys in the other day DOH
my '86 has my three favorites: vent windows, floor dimmer, and sliding rear window.
my '88 grand marquis has vent windows and my mom's '91 grand marquis doesn't. it makes a difference (especially since the AC doesn't work in my '88 or '86)
Man, is my truck not secure or what! Vent windows, and a rear slider! The windows were one of the controling reasons for buying my 86 Isuzu Trooper, along with it's being a diesel, and my 84 B-2000. Come to think of it, my 81 Corrolla had them too.
I said it before, and I'll say it again....I want to keep my 92 F-150 as long as I can, simply because of the side-vent windows, and rain gutters over the door. I don't want to breathe stale air,or have water pour on me when I open the window a 1/4 inch. my windows are open all through the summer and winter, and the vent windows are wide open when it is raining hard.
Ford Engineers, get with the freaking program!
Yeah my floor dimmer shorts out from water on the floor, but it's still great for being there. And if your vent window handle locks work then they still gotta break a window to get in anyway...Those aftermarket vent window locks work good.
My rear slider has 4 sliding glass door type locks on it, maybe that's why I don't use it much( or is it that my Vent Windows work so well!
My chevy pickups rear slider was always open
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Jan-03 AT 09:12 AM (EST)]I hear y'all on these older trucks. both of my f150's have had the vent windows, high/low beam switch on the floor. The fact that it is built out of strong steel rather than cheap fiberglass. Man, i love older trucks.
I guess I am in the "insecure" crowd... vent windows, sliding back glass and a floor dimmer on my '85 F150 4x4. Oh, and I guess the fact that I have not locked the driver's side door since I got it might have a bearing on how secure it is. But it's a farm truck, and around here everybody knows what truck belongs to what farmer, so if they see somebody else driving it, they know it got stolen... sort of a rural version of the Neighborhood Watch program.
The floor dimmer switch was common across many American cars and trucks before 1980. So they changed to the column mounted multi-funcition switch. It's less safe, flimsy, and expensive. How so you might ask?
1. Less safe: Try going into a sharp corner with your high beams on and meet an oncoming car. Do you:
A: Leave the high beams on and blind the oncoming driver so he might crash into you?
B: Take your hand off the steering wheel to turn off your high beams and risk losing control of the car?
2. I've personally had many more column switches fail than floor mounted swithces (zero failures for floor).
3. When the column swithc failed on my windstar it was a $300 switch. I've found the floor switches for less than $10.
I also miss being able to operate the windshield washer seperately from the wipers. Here in Maine washer operation is a must in the winter. I like to be able to douse the windshield with fluid before turning on the wipers and grinding the salt into the windshield.
