I have a 1999 F-250 Diesal and one fine day I hit the horn and it went on and it wouldn' shut up until I had to pull the circuit breaker from the left hand side under the steering wheel. Someone told me it is a bad relay in the steering wheel where you push to honk the horn. If it is where can I get one? If it's not what do I do. I'm a first time user.
I saw one listed at the autozone web site for around $5.00. You might want to get a
repair manual also. The Haynes manual has pretty decent wiring diagrams. Any good
auto parts shop should be able to come up with one based upon your vehicles' specifics.
You can quickly check the relay by subbing one of the other relays in it's place. If it continues to honk with the sub relay, it is not a relay problem.
The horn honks by grounding the relay thru the horn ring/button to the colum. This is a wire, not a relay as there is no relay in the steering column, and if this wire shorts, it will continue honking. You will probably have to pull the steering wheel to find it. jd
99% of the time I have found the problem is in the steering wheel. But the diagram I have shows the horn relay on a 2005 located in the fuse box. I believe in 2005, the fuse box is now located on the passenger side kick panel.
I took my truck (f350) to the dealer to fix the horn under warranty and when I went to pick it up, the keyless entry no longer works, the dome light stays on, and the instrument cluster message cycles through all four door ajar messages. I just laughed and said "nice try, call me when it'd really fixed".
