mornin yall, i have a 97 f-250 (7 lug jewel) 5.4 V8, 4" rancho lift and 35" buckshots, its a 4x4 with the 10.25 rear end. every time i come to a stop then go to take off again rather i baby it or hammer it it feels like something in the rear isnt fully engaged. kinda feels like the gears or something drop into a slot then i get traction. theres no high rev or nothing its just instant when i hit the gas. no noises or anything neither just a weird feeling like something may be loose. I aint sure of what gears i have in this thing because i bought it as she sits. i do know that there arent many gear options for this type of rear at least thats what im told so also what are the most common gears to run with this set up. im pretty new to the off road world and yall may be happy to know i left my ex wife because she wouldnt let me have a big truck lol...along with a few other reasons, well now i have my 4x4 so lets see if we can make my experiance better.
by the way maybe its a 3" lift, how can i tell that also, and whoever said 3" or 4" depending on what i got will accept 35's b.s. i still have tire rub when turning all the way, where can i get spacers for a 7 lug?
If your truck is equiped with a LS unit, it could very well be the unit slipping, or chattering. Once in a while a unit will feel kinda funny like you have mentioned. The solution is to simply add some friction modifier to condition the clutches. I am hoping that there are no loud noises, or abnormal sounds associated with you problem.
Second item regarding your rubbing problem. The solution will probably not get solved by adding spacers. If your truck is rubbing the fenders now, the problem will get worse by making the wheel stick out further. I suspect the rubbing problem is in the front, not the rear, and only when you turn really sharp?
You may just need to do some minor trimming on the bottom of your front fender to fix the rubbing.
The acceleration problem sounds like you have a LS rear end that isn't engaging properly. I had the same thing happening in my '03 SuperCrew this fall.
does it have rear lift blocks for the lift kit? are they stacked with the factory blocks? if so i would check for movement there and/or loose ubolts first
