also, stay away from NAPA for your filters. they are WAY over priced. http://www.fleetfilter.com/
fleetfilter has them for $20. napa will charge you anywhere from $30 to $40+ dollars depending on what price sheet they give you.
thanks

i checked fleetfilter, and after shipping it was $37, so i wil just pay the extra 4-5 bones to have it right away! thanks for offering the advice and thanks for posting up that link!!
pop, thanks for noticing my homework, after searching for few hours unsuccessful i will make a post.
Also I have been occupied looking over and reading guzzle's website....WOW a tip of my hat goes off to him and the time it took him to construct such a magnifiscent page for the diesel community to use.
I bought my filter from Fleet and it was $30 and some change shipped to my door. I have a early '99 and I installed mine yesterday using a piece of 4" exhaust with a 45 deg. bend. I tried using a short straight piece but couldn't make it fit. Since I didn't have a 45 at the time I re-installed the original airbox until I could find a 45. With the 45 it fits nicely and I was able to tie the temp sensor to another wire near the fuse box and it's in close proximity to the new monster 6637.
I took out all of the old worthless airbox and just laid the filter in there. Do I need to block the air coming from the fender well???
definetly can say that it looks like brake dust. I guess it is just hard for me to fathom the dust from the brakes are making it from inside the rear of the wheel, thru the fender well liner and onto my intake all while 10-60 mph hwy winds are blowing. Like I said I am not doubting you or doubting that it could be brake dust, just seems weird to me!!!
also after two weeks my wheels dont even look that bad.
You're absolutely right about where it's coming from, rpss. My stock filter would get oily, and I have no doubt it was from ccv vapor, it even smelled like motor oil. I think it happens when the engine is turned off, because I start and stop my engine numerous times every day.
I got a dead link on that.
At work we have a Tube Bender that will handle up to 6" coping. Can you bend exhaust tube, or do we need to but a seperate union?
I installed the Racor CCV filter to my rig because my air filter was always glogged up with oil especially at one end. I would do a CCV mod of some sort and re route your air intake or do an air filter mod of some sort. The Raycor CCV and the AIS filter upgrade was the first and most important mods I have ever done to my 02
well good news, more good news, and some kinda bad news.
(good news)
I did the KWIK filter today. hard as hell to find a 4" piece of pipe, then finding someone to bend it was another story I finnaly found a piece of 4"pipe with a bend already made for $33 and i just had to cut it to fit my application.
(good news)
Also while I was there I did the CCV re-route
(good news) checked the turbo wheel and all checks out fine. no scratches, chunks missing, just a little oily residue from the CCV.
(bad news)
I didnt have enough 3/4" pipe to run the CCV all the way to the back. It vents out at the rear door of my CC. so it gets kinda stinky, but not as bad as i thought it was going to be.

I also agree with the source of the oil, I actually had some oil laying in the bottom of my stock air box when I removed it to install my new AIS. Thats why I did the CCV mod at the same time. I would be courious to hear from some of the others that have an AIS filter with the fender sleeve to see if they are having issues with dust from the fender well.
I just did my 6637 this past Friday evening. My truck is probably 98% stock before doing the 6637 (and AIH, and zoodad, and OIlGuard bypass filtration system on Saturday). I was almost hoping to find problems with my turbo wheel, but it looked really clean inside, especially considering that I still haven't done the CCV reroute yet.
