what a find

today i found a 2001 ranger xlt at the dealership with only 15000 miles on her. it is a 2wd 4cyl with 5 spd auto. it is really clean and runs great. my step-dad just totalled his focus and has been driving a friend of my step-brothrers truck and fell back in love with driving a truck again. he will not be using it much as a truck, but more as a daily driver. i owned a 2001 ranger edge until last may when i traded it in for a car. so i know all about rangers and how they act.

but should i have any reservations about it being 5 yrs old and only having 15000 miles on it? that only equats to 3000 miles a year?

The low mileage shouldn't concern you as long as it's legit. Get a Carfax report so you know where the truck originated and where it's been. Ask the dealership for an OASIS report, as well.

i believe he got a carfax on it but an oasis i'm not sure.

today we went to another dealership down close to columbus, ohio and the saleman there was a idiot. we told him what we were looking for and he tried to get us into a 2001 ranger 4x4 w 3.0 auto extended cab wiht 94000 miles. about the only thing this truck had going for it was i am pretty sure it had a limited slip rearend. but the last owner ran the **** out of it. the saleman was dumb enough to go and say he was going to get a plate on it and drove around the building and came back around in front of the service and had a kid come out and fill up the power steering because it was leaking and after we took it for adrive i told him the power steering was low and he looked at me like it was a complete shock that it was low.

Take that 2001 xlt to a decent mechanic and autobody, and they can probably tell you why the miles are low if you know what I mean.

Oasis is a report of all the warranty work (or all the work? I can't remember) done by Ford dealerships to a vehicle.

I would put only about 3,000 miles on my truck a year when I lived in Missouri. Worked 2 miles from my house when I lived out there. I would still change the oil every 6 months.

Let me advice you that a 4 cylinder with an auto can be a sorry combo as far as power, not as bad with a duratec as it is with the lima. Being that it is an 01, it could be either, the duratec was a mid year change in 01, Just make sure that you give it a good test drive and can live with the power of that combonation.

thanks

he doesn't need a whole lot of power. he drives like a really old man, does about 10 under the whole way. but when it comes to pulling a trailer or anything big i've got an f250 which will do anything we will ever need it to do.

If it checks out true, sounds like a perfect vehicle for an older gentelman. If the price is fair, I expect it would not stay on the lot long.

Sounds a little high for '01 2.5L 2WD. Regular cab? With the large credit for low miles $10k may be a fair retail particularly if it is clean. Did you check it against NADA or Edmunds?

I bought an 01 Taurus in 2004 from a dealer with only 8,500 miles on it for something like $7,500.00. The low miles attracted me. Turned out that it had been a car in the security department at King's Island Amusement Park in Ohio. Rarely driven off grounds, and sat little used for 6 months out of the year. We still have it and it's been a great car.

It would be good to know what the history is on it. As suggested, get a CarFax and an Oasis report.

no, i just helped him find the truck. when it came down to the financing and all that, that was none of my business so i left. but it is very clean inside and out and had no dings, dents or scraps. all the paint matched, what i mean is the orange peel was the same from panel to panel.

I think you had better find out why the miles are so low. Really, it's not all that hard to "adjust" odometers or replace them with ones with lower miles and if you don't know what you're looking for, it's very easy to roll 40K (or more) off a clock on a clean but used ride and most buyers will have no clue (until later, after miles rack up). If you know what you are looking for, much evidence of miles cannot be hidden simply by adjusting the odometer, and I'm talking above any beyond brake pedal and carpet wear. Also, $10K for a 2wd four banger sounds a bit high; for fun I'd compare this against a new one at invoice price (cuz that's about the right price to pay).

*I think, and if you really want this ride, that you need to talk to the previous owner(s).
