Just found this site and hope someone can answer this question. I have a rat rod that has a 42 Ford frame, 35 Ford wheels, and the bucket style body is made fron an 81 Mustang hood that was split down the middle. It has a pinto 2.3 motor and a 5 speed tranny. There is not alot of room but I think I could fit a 2.6 V6 in it but would the tranny bolt up ok or would I need to change that also? Thanks for any help, Tim

Unfortunately the 2.3 has a slightly different bellhousing bolt pattern from the V6s. It almost looks like it'll fit but it won't, and the starters are on opposite sides. Also, the V6 tranny has a longer input shaft than the 2.3 so even if you were to swap bellhousings (depending on what tranny you have-some had removeable bellhousings, some were integral) it still wouldn't work. You'll just have to use a V6 tranny. But if you're going to change it all around anyway, why not use a little bigger V6 like the 2.8 if you want to stay carbed, or the the 4.0 if you don't mind changing to EFI. (The 4.0 was never available carbed and has no distributor. It might be possible to put a carb on it with a good bit of fabrication and an aftermarket crank trigger ignition...)
I do have another suggestion however: drop by our 2.3 forum and investigate the possibilities of swapping in a T-bird 2.3 turbo motor. That would give you more power than the 2.6.
This sounds like an interesting vehicle...got any pics?

If you have any pics uploaded to a picture hosting site you can link to them there. Otherwise you need to open your gallery, although it's supposed to be Ford truck related items only. You can however choose the hidden gallery option, which still lets anybody access it, it just doesn't come up through the normal gallery display search option (I guess you'd call it...)
Click on your User CP at the top left of the screen and choose "Edit Gallery" from the menu on the left. Follow the directions there, and PM me if you have any problems.
I would call it a T bucket also but since I don't have enough money to make it show quality I am making it a rat. For those that don't know what a rat is, it is kinda old school. Sorta what a teenager may have built back in the 50's with very little money. Some people drive them rusty or in primer and they are built with what ever parts a kid could scrounge. So I guess I'm a 56 year old teenager. Tim
There are a couple of brothers here in my town who do the same thing, and they're both of the same generation as we are. They really go in big for the retro-rat rod look, their cars appear to have been built in the '50s. Way cool, IMHO. They go in for flathead power quite a bit with thiers. One of the brothers owns the local wrecking yard and has a pretty good source of parts...
