My drivers side window fell into the door one day. My father got everything fixed, but the window doesnt roll up all the way on its own. usually i need to help the window up. after that i had the speakers in the doors replaced and the shop removed the plastic sheet inside the door. also, the power lock on the driver side doesnt lock on its own. i can unlock it by using the switch, but to lock it i have to manually push the button down. plus, the dome light doesnt come on when the driver side door is opened. when the passenger door is open the dome light comes on. and the door latch cable broke. sometime after i got the speakers replaced, on really cold days the door handle would be really hard to pull. one day i pulled and the cable in the door handle just snapped. Any help would be appreciated.
To fix the window you need a new gear in the window drive assembly(not sure that's what it's called). It is a plastic gear that is available at most parts suppliers. You'll need to drill out the rivets holding the motor and housing. Then you open the gear cover, replace the gear after cleaning out all the old broken pieces and reinstall the unit using new bolts that are short enough to miss the window. It takes some practice to get the unit in while getting the window parts to line up. I say get in there and give it a shot. Maybe your Dad can help.
If the lock won't go up it may be the door lock actuator. They are kind of pricey. $75-$100. If you look at the end of the door you'll see a rivet at the bottom. Driil that rivet out and reach inside the door and grab the actuator. Replace it using a small bolt. First check to make sure something it not sticking along the rod from the actuator to the door lock itself. You made need to lube the linkages first. A good way to see if it is stuck is to reach in and try to push it up by hand. If it moves freely then it's your actuator.
I wish I could help you with the door cable. I haven't had to replace mine. It shouldn't be too hard. Check out a Haynes manual I think they have an exploded view of the door.
I went through this problem.....Went to Napa auto parts. I got their gear assy to fix problem....I asked if I couldn't just get the gear and they said no. Went to the Ford Dealership and just bought the gears.........WHOLE LOT CHEAPER.
The dome light is actuated by a switch in the door jam and gets depressed when you close the door. The switch might not be grounding when the door is open so you might want to check the surrounding metal to see if it is rusty, and or check the switch with a light meter.
you dont need the gear.. there's little nylon dowls in side the gear there design to wear out instead of burning up the motor... you can get then at most auto stores for a buck or two.... there's 3 of them
Ok, update to my first reply-- Check the mechanism that the door handle attaches to, there is a pin that has some lubrication on it. Make sure that the part is lubed where it slides and in turn pulls the cable. That could be an easy solution to the door sticking.
