Hey Guys. Im going to do that Muffler Delete mod this weekend. I got the guages and im wondering how much my EGT's will drop? Its a stock down pipe as of right now also. Sorry im sure you guys are sick of these questions. Thanks
Do us a favor and let us know! Go to some stretch of road and do a few hard runs from some speed up to some speed. Drive a long stretch of flat road and see what your freeway cruising temps are.
Then straight pipe it.
Then repeat the previous runs, and see what the differences are.
(I did intake/exhuast on mine before gauges, so I don't know how much the temps dropped. )
I'll take a WAG and say you'll see a 150* or so drop.
LOL sounds Fun! Il def do that for u guys. Althooo Can i just gut out the muffler. When i say gut i mean cut it open take out everything and weld it back up. I cant seem to find a 4 inch pipe anywhere and also its gotta be bent. I just cant put a straight piece in there.

Yes, you can indeed just gut the muffler. A member at TDS did that... Ford_Forgotton, IIRC. Makes it looks like you've still got a muffler: http://www.forgotton.net/frame.html
Looks like he actually left the muffler casing off.
However, it's very easy to straight pipe without needing a bent pipe. You can do like Kris suggested and get a piece of 3.5" flex pipe, OR you can just use a piece of 3.5" straight pipe. The pipe just before the muffler is the "s-pipe".... rotate this 180* so that its outlet is up, not down as it is when going into the muffler. This will bring it just about in-line with the tailpipe, and a straight piece of 3.5" pipe will work fine.
Back when I got this done, I just called around the nearby muffler shops until I found one that had 3.5" straight pipe and was willing to do the job... they charged $60 and it took them about 20 minutes. They cut the muffler off, rotated the s-pipe and rewelded it, flared the ends of a piece of 3.5" pipe, slipped it on, and welded it up... lined up the tailpipe to the level that looked best to me, and then welded the hangers to the pipe. I would've liked to have done the job myself, but have no welder nor welding skills, and didn't want to just use clamps.
You might even show the shop that picture to show them how simple it is... they might not think to rotate the s-pipe. Or, if doing it yourself... now you'll know how.
PS - one thing just occurred to me: shops you call might tell you that they can't do 3.5" pipe because their bender can't bend pipes that big. Point out to them that no bending is required. All you need is a straight length of 3.5" pipe... and they'll need to flare the ends just a bit so it can slip over the stock pipes.

Hey, I cant thankyou all enough! Im gonna do all this tomorrow. I wanna run that test about the EGT's. First thing im gonna do is drive around warm the truck up. Then do an Idle test see how high they are. Then a 55 Mph with the cruise on, Then a 70 Mph highway with the cruise on, After the muffler is gutted or whatever direction i might take, i will re do the test. Again thankyou guys!
Keep in mind that if you gut the muffler and want to change back you will have to buy a muffler. A little pocket change for some flex and if you want to change just take it off and put the muffler back on.
Yea good idea. My dad gave me the Go ahead to do whatever i had to do to make it louder. And myself i love trucks that you can hear coming. So im thinkin about Gutting the muffler, And if he doesnt like it then he will have to buy a new system lol jk jk jk. Im gonna do the smart thing and ask him what he wants to do first. After all it is his truck, I just drive it 24/7 while he drives my moms tauras for gas milage lol. Thanks guys
It'd be cool to see the difference on a hard accleration run, also... maybe you have some sorta back road you can test that out on.
Edit - I also just noticed the K&N... it's not a drop-in K&N in the stock air box, is it? The cone-type is fine, but the drop-in stock replacements tend to let unfiltered air through... they've dusted a few turbo wheels here and there. Just a heads-up.
OO GEEZ me and backroads lol. O i live in the boonies of Michigan i got backroads, There just all icy rite now so good luck for traction on my road slicks. Gonna need some new rubbers soon lol
Hey Ryan, I checked out both links, The first one... Thats kinda what i had in my head to do only leave the casing on. My dad is worried about cops. But if they allow stacks they wont have a problem with mine. I also checked out the second link and i really like how clean that looks. It looks like nothing was ever there. I told my dad about the flex exhaust tubing and hes thinking something like autozone 1 inch flex that you would use ona rusted out escort. I know what you mean about the Big rig App. I also think that would look a little cheap, no offence to ppl who have that im sure it workes great. I will talk to him more about it tomorrow and ask him what he thinks about the two links and the flex. Thankyou again
