propane conversion piston

just a quick question of yall good folk, i remember a few years back a guy at teh local dragstrip was runnin a 71 torino with a 400 in it and was runnin real well, like mid 10's, of course thats a 1000' track, but still that figures into about a mid to high 12 in the quarter and i asked him what piston he was runnin, this was long before i had discovered ole tim meyer's place, he told me he was runnin propane conversion pistons, i didnt wanna call the bs on him because i didnt know one way or the other myself, did they make such an animal, and if they did were they actually any different

he may have been running some domed cleveland 351C pistons that put his compression around 11:1, where propane runs well. 351C pistons can be fit to 400 rods by either bushing the rods, or (if the pistons have enuf meat around the wristpin holes), boring out the piston pin holes for the bigger 400 wristpins. He certainly wasn't running any sort of pump gas in that thing, tho. probably AV fuel @ 110 octane...

I have a set of Ertel pistons specifically manufactured for propane conversions. #1282P
