I was driving down the road today and there was a crash and a bunch of squealing.
I pulled over and checked my fan belt , saw it was loose and decided to carry on.
It was only 2 miles or so to a auto parts store.
I thought I needed a belt but on closer inspection I see that a idler pulley under the air conditioner is in pieces.
Im trying to find pictures of it or at least the proper name of it to try and get another one.
There are 2 pulleys the belt goes around under the air conditioner, its the one towards the center of the engine.
Does anyone have a picture or the proper name?
It's just a dual pulley tensioner, you local auto parts should be able to look it up with that info. Mine fell apart too this summer, and they just looked up the year, and told them it had 2 pulley's, and they got it right. It was a gates.
On my truck it was one assy held on with a nut from the rear. IIRC I had to remove the ac compressor to get to the nut. Don't remove the lines, just pull the mount bolts and move it out of the way gently. no puller needed
Ok I took the one idler off and found one I think at local autopart store.
Ford would only sell me the whole tensioner with the 2 pulleys on it for $275.00 but I paid $30.00 for the one from parts store.
It went back on and the belt seems tight and fine.
Have only driven it a few miles but I think I may have gotten lucky?

WOW, I guess this is why they call it the stealership. I got the whole tensioner at my local auto parts store for around $75.00. Hope the pully fixes it for ya.
