I have a remote start on my 07 f350. I leave the block heater plugged in until i leave. Is it ok to have the truck plugged in and running? I was told its not good for it.
I do this more then once a day on my 04. When I leave in the early AM, then again when I leave work in the afternoon. I have done it on many vehicles for years. 3 months of the year 5-7 days a week. Never had an issue.
I can't see how it would be a problem. It's just an electric heating elememt sitting in coolant. When I start mine with the heater on for 3 hours the coolant temp is about 100 deg. I takes a long time at idle for the temp to come up. Even at 195 deg. I don't think it would overheat the element. I leave mine plugged in using the remote starter all the time.
what kind of remote start systems are you guys using?? and how much?
Viper responder SST... range is around a mile or 2. It's two way with the engine disable feature for antitheft and turbo rundown for the diesel. Nice feature when I'm towing. We've had a big increase in stolen diesels around here last couple of years so the anti theft is a little piece of mind.
I would like some feedback on two way remote starters with alarm also. Specifically which if any will still allow me to use my keypad on the driver door (on the 07's they are hardwired to the truck).
