Question Loose power steering

I have a 03 F350 that the power steering is really loose. If it is sitting and idling you can give the steering wheel a spin with one finger and it make at least 2 full turns. The wheels do turn with it. If anybody has seen this before I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

You mean the steering wheel keeps turning if you let go of it?

Yes, I put one finger on the steering wheel and give it a 1/4 of a turn and momentum is enough to spin the wheel another 2 full rotations. It does does this in either direction. It runs down the road straight but corners are a little hairy getting started back straight. The local Ford garage just wants to start replacing things until they find the problem. That sounds like it cuold get pretty expensive to me so I thought I'd try to get some insight on it here. Any ideas?

sounds like the pre load on your steering box needs amped up.
