1940 Ford MH Cab

Nigel...the only differences in the sheetmetal between the pickups and big trucks is in the front fenders, hood, grille, etc....the cabs are the same for big trucks and pickups from 40 and '41. Just to let you know, the 42-47 pickup and truck cabs are almost exactly the same. The differences is that the 42-47 has a metal frame around the door glass, and the gas tank is mounted inside the cab under the seat, so there is a filler neck hole on the pass side of the cab. Those are the biggest diffrences, there are a couple of other minor ones, but not too much. Take a look in the Picture Gallery in the right hand bar on this page. Look at the pictures for 1941. There you'll see one of the bigger trucks, and the headlights on the pods. Now, also take a look at this auction on eBay for a 1940 FOrd pickup. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1828450576&r=0&t=0 I think you'll have to cut and paste it into your browser. You can see the differences on the front sheetmetal and the headlights in the fenders. Long reply, but hopefully you'll find some of this helpful.

Gary

Nigel - there's a post in the Truck Buyer's forum that I just responded to. Sounds like the lady has a complete 1940 F100 pickup. She didn't really sound like she wanted to sell it but you never know.

We've got a '41 F100 pickup which is the same as the '40. The headlights are in the fenders and our the original title the guy gave us when we purchased the truck is stamped "Ford Farm". Don't know if the pict's in my gallery would be of any help or not for what you're doing but take a look. I have a ton more that I haven't posted if you ever want to see anything specific.

Carlene hi
Thanks for reply. Took a look at your gallery, your truck looks good, some work, and what a coincidence about the hauler driver too! small world.

The cab on yours is the sort I am after but the fenders, hood finishes are different. As you know I`m after the 1940 truck with the headlamps on stalks on the fenders. They must have been on the larger trucks as you don`t often see them on the pickups. Still one will turn up, and hopefully close to a port so that shipping it over here would be easier!!

Thanks again

Nigel

What size is your M-H Ford? I have a '39 1/2-ton, model LD-3-4. I need a front axle/differential. If you have a pickup, do you have or know of a spare front axle unit, complete?

Thanks,

Sorry horseheaven, the only MH truck I know of is a 1943 Snowblower and its complete, owner wanting £2,500 for it. Can`t help you otherwise. There is a guy in the States which advertises MH parts. His email is chuck4850(No Email Addresses In Posts!) He's in Hamden CT ? Conneticut? Sorry about the spelling!! While you're onto him ask him if he has a 1940 Ford cab complete with hood, fenders, interior and grill. Thanks

I've already been on to Chuck's Trucks, thanks, and he gave me a lot of good advice but didn't have the parts I need. I'm American, but currently living in Australia. Now busy chasing several 1939-41 M-H Ford Australian Army artillery tractors, which are way cool rigs with roadster cabs (!!). I also know of at least three M-H 6x6's for sale down here, which were originally Australian Army crash recovery trucks -- that is, used to retrieve trucks and possibly tanks that had crapped out. These are extremely heavy-duty and interesting trucks, much like yours except '42 or newer, and include a Blitz- or Canadian Military Pattern-type roof hatch. Where are you in Scotland? I spent 3.5 years at Oxford (Balliol College) doing a history doctorate about a Victorian Scottish geologist, and spent many happy weeks in archives all over the land of the thistle. Go, the Scots (my mother's family bears the good Lowland name of Fulton).
