You cannot trust the government. They are uneducated fools that could not keep a job selling shoes. Dennis is right. We are coming out of an ice age. Good, I like it warmer. We can adapt or complain.

Perfect timing.
I just saw on the news last night a spot about some ice core samples taken from Antarctica. The have some way of measuring the CO2 mixed in with the ice. They revealed that the earth has gone through eight warming and cooling cycles in the time that it took to make that glacial ice. And that ice was pretty old, definately made way before modern times.
I really hope that level heads will prevail and this data will be considered when making environmental policies worldwide.
There's responsible stewardship of earth's resources to the betterment of mankind's lifestyle and then there's despotic manipulation of policies just have power over everyone in some way.

It's comforting to see that, at least in this thread, reason outweighs extremism by about 20:1.

What we see as a "disaster" is just another natural cycle....
I read recently that a lack of forest fires due to human fire-fighting intervention is one of the causes of the spread of the highly destructive Mountain Pine Beetle in British Columbia. Seems that they thrive on a particular maturity of pine, but normally natural fires keep that age of pine to a limited population. With human fire-fighting, the population of mature pines has increased which has caused the Pine Beetle to explode and they are threatening to destroy the whole country's forests now.

Yes. We have a huge pine beetle problem here in Colorado as well. Actually per square mile, we have the worst pine beetle explosion in the country. It's quite depressing. There is a little town called Grandby we used to frequent (or the national forest surrounding) to go dirtbike riding. Now at least 1 in 3 trees is orange and dead due to pine beetle infestation. They are thinning the forests at an outstanding rate, and now because of all of the dead infested trees, we have a super serious forest fire issue.

Sorta strange how that all works eh? An ecosystem will level itself out, eventually, no matter what we have to say about it.

Funny was looking on Wikipedia the other night. There was a list of people who were skeptical of global warming. The majority of the skeptics were scientist. Few politicians fewer celebrities.

The climate is in a constant state of change with only 150 years of good weather observations.

I don't see how the two positions contradict one another.

1. historical climate change is raising temperatures.

2. human consumption of oil and coal has accelerated to the point we are having a noticeable impact on the atmosphere

1 + 2 = its getting warmer.

I think the bottom line here isn't the science, but money and power. The United States is not going to sign Kyoto, or any other international treaty, that will overshadow American "interests" in the Middle East.

You give creadence that you use global warming for a political arguement. One volcanic event would emit more greenhouse gasses and particles than all of fossil fuels used.

Furthermore the climate changed changed long time man started the industrural revolution. Most recently was an ice age, before that climate was fairly tropical. I agree there is change, but not for the reasons you state.

Maybe you should sign a petition to outlaw the greatest greenhouse gas - Dihydrogen Monoxide.

i agree there was climate change before there was industrial pollution. now there's greenhouse gas and global warming to boot.

most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities.

There green house gasses before. Think about all the CO2 and other gasses that a Volcano gives off during an eruption. Man could not have caused that, could he?

One eruption that was large enough would give off more gas compared to man has done in the last 200 years.

Still don't think humans have a major impact on climate change?
I'm a skeptic at heart, so I've done a lot of reading that has really been an eye opener.
I originally subscribed to Scientific American magazine (www.sciam.com) for their articles on stem cell research and space sciences, but in the past few years there's been climate change articles in almost every issue.
Oh, BTW, volcanic eruptions and forest fires actually have the opposite effect on the temperature as greenhouse gases, by releasing microscopic particulates and cooling the atmosphere.
I've got a long list of articles and research papers if anyone is interested in actual science and not media hype or opinion.
