I bought a used 2000 F250 last May w/ 75000 on it ,and love the truck. It has A Bank's exhaust and a Preditor chip under the hood ( wich I found by crawling around in there looking for something else ) .... My ??? is should I buy a monitor of some type for in the cab to see whats going on under the hood. And what exactly will that chip do for my truck.... I found another one from Bank's laying in the glove box....it looks like it plugs into a computer board or something. Any and all Answers would be appreciated.
you will want gauges for sure.. you need atleast a boost, pyro and trans temp gauge..im not sure how a banks chip works but i dont think its a switch on the fly..it plugs into the computer port under the dash and down loads a proformance tune...if you want a good swich on the fly tunes check out http://www.dp-tuner.com/ this is a custom made chip for your truck..IMO its the best one going...banks only adds power and is hard on the trans..a dp adds power pluss makes the trans put the power to the ground....
It depends on if the Banks product is a tuner or a chip if it is a tuner, the 6gun, then it is shift on the fly level 1-6. This unit will also monitor EGT, Tranny temp and boost and will allow you to set up temp limits for the tranny and EGT and also boost limits. The 6 gun is cylindrical and has 2 buttons mode and select on the front with a display screen.
If it is the banks chip, the Big Hoss, then it is not shift on the fly this has to be tuned from Banks levels 1-5. This can be stacked with the 6 gun.
I have the 6 Gun and I like it I have not had any problems with it. Even though the 6 Gun monitors EGT, Tranny and boost I still have the gauges for each. My 6 Gun does not monitor EGT because I have the thermocouple connected to the Pyro gauge. The site favorite is DP Tuner, I do not know too much about it but from what I have read it is a nice set up. I am sure you will get some more info on the DP Tuner. Hope this helps.

Well thanks for the info on the BANKs chip but its just rattleing around in the glove box......I'm not sure if I will put it in or not ...The Preditor chip is, or seems to be an in line type hookup....... should I be worryed about not having it monitored ? I'm not sure I will have the extra cash for something to monitor the truck with unless you guys think I'm doing damage to it by not. I think the truck may have had a monitor in it but the guy who had it before me took it out. There looks to be a plug in system to the right of the steering wheel under the dash . I'm thinking he took the main unit with him and didn't worry about the wireing..... or is this the plug for A diagnostic system..
Again thanks fo the info and I look foward to more .... AngeliasDad
the port under the dash is a diagnostic plug.that is where you read the PCM and get your codes from when the ses light comes on...it is also used to install some of the programmable chips...if you want to run a chip or tuner you will at least need a pyro gauge to read exhaust temps .. with a chip or tuner your EGT's (exhaust gas temperature} will climb pretty fast...any thing over 1250 degrees for a extended amount of time will fry your turbo and or engine..
