I have a 2001 f-250 crew cab powerstroke that has 71000 miles on it and I have had no major problems other than batteries, CPS and glow plug relay. It is garage kept and looks new inside and out. However with my xplan and the available incentives on 2006 I can buy a new 2006 xlt f-250 crew cab for about 32k and the dealer is offering me 17500.00 trade for my F-250 site unseen.
My problem is should I trade for the new one and if I do will I get a truck with turbo problems? Would you guys and gals go for the new one or keep the old one and why?
Keep the old one !1 I have a 2001 F250 crew cab powerstroke with 133K on her and she's doing great. She's comfortable, reliable, safe, and could pull Hell off the cross ! Personally, I have no desire for a new truck...but that's my "why" .
I have faith in the newer 6.0 L engines - I did just buy one. But your existing truck is way low miles, considering what is the life expectancy, and is still very new, by my standards anyway. Unless you have a strong desire for a new truck, it might be hard to find a logical justification to buy yourself a new one.
My brother-in-law in Texas has a 7.3 with over 225,000 miles on it...Before Christmas he was complaining that he had to replace some fuel injectors or something related...I don't quite remember. Anyway, it cost over $1,000. But that was the first major repair....he figured that is equal to TWO payments...much cheaper than a new one.
From a lot of fellow campers I have talked to with the 7.3, you already have a new truck. I am not a diesel guy, but I would buy a 7.3....I would sure keep it...
Glad you decided to keep it. Another reason would be as soon as the 08's hit the dealer's lots the 06 you are looking at is instantly two years old and depreciated accordingly.
yep they are gonna be fire saling 6.0's here in a couple more months and you would be kicking yourself in the *** for getting rid of your 7.3 besides 71,000 miles ain't even broke in yet.
Here is a little update: I may have to turn in my man card for this or it may get suspended for awhile but we decided to keep our 7.3 for pulling our trailer and any heavy hauling only. It will be kept in a heated garage and I will still baby it like I do now with superlative maintance and care but we are only going to use it when needed. This way I think it will be good to go for another six or so years! On the other hand we just purchased a 07 Toyota Tacoma to use as my everyday truck so that I don't have to drive the f250 around all the time. Then when I want to drive a real truck without spark plugs I can jump in the 7.3!!!!
Thanks again gents for all the great input, it helped me make a decision that I am really comfortable with! OOH-RAH!!
Nothing wrong with that I have a 90 nissan sentra to putt around in its beating up the foreign POS's everyday and then having a real vehicle to ride around in on the weekends I just wish I had a garage big enough for the truck
