I currently have a box mounted in the bed of my ranger but am thinking about relocating the tools, cables, hi lift , straps etc to my "back seat". Thinking of trying 2 or 3 action packers or other brand heavy duty box to store this stuff in. I don't use the space behind the seat anyway, (x cab with no jump seats), and it would be nice to have the extra room in the bed. Just wondering if anyone else had tried this? How did you fasten them down? Does anyone make a box that will just fit in without any mods? (The floor isn't level) Thanks
I put one of those locker type, it black has 2 little locks on it with a place for a padlock. No particular brand you can find at walmart etc. Tried the little action packer it proved to be too small, this one holds a fair amount.
I put some of the high density foam on the front part to lift theat portion about 4 inches and glued it where the "feet" are molded in. On the rear I placed a coup[le of pieces to move it out from the rear deck so I can open with some difficulty if needed.
mine is 94 SC, I have bucket seats out of a 01 explorer with a consol out of a early 90s explorer. Nothing to hold it in place as the seats keep it from moving fore aft and the weight keeps it on the floor but I can move it laterally if I need to.
I keep my extra work clothes, misc stuff in it, have a truck box in the back, plan to add a cover from the truck box back when the weather starts to cooperate.
I used to keep a milk crate behind the passenger's seat. It was a little too big to allow the seat to go all the way back or recline at all, but I rarely carry passengers so that wasn't too much of a problem. I put a cap on the back, and now all that stuff (and more) lives back there.
Keep in mind that if you've got a two-door, the biggest box you can get into the back seat area may be smaller than the biggest that will fit back there...
