fuel filterstep by step

Hey guys I am just curious about how to change my fuel filter on my 2003 7.3. Can you give me a step by step process on what to do an when to do it. 1,2,3 an so on. And give any tip or pointers you have found out when changing your fuel filter. Thanks for your help. Its cold out and I dont want anything to go wrong with the install. Thanks again this forum is the best an you guys make it that way.

1. Up between the front of the passenger side exhaust manifold, and the water pump, is a tube that comes down and dumps on the ground. If you don't care about fuel falling on the ground, then proceed to 2. However if you do, place a suitable container under this metal tube

2. On the back of the fuel filter housing, there is a yellow lever. Turn it 1/4 and it will open up, sending fuel out of that tube.

3. Remove the fuel filter cap, right in front of that drain valve. No fuel should come out.

4. If you have a new filter with a lid on it, then just screw in the new filter. Otherwise seperate the filter from the lid. Use the new o-ring, and snug tight plus a little more on the lid is all you need.

5. Close that yellow drain valve

6. Turn on the key for 15-20 seconds, until the fuel pump shuts off. Do it again and then start the engine, check for leaks.

Strap wrench or large channelocks. Don't crack it. Also, make sure all orings come out and new ones go in. I have installed a length of hose to my drain pipe so it is easy to dump unto a container.

Rubber strap wrench gets it loose in about two seconds.

Im still havin issue with my filter. But he gasket goes on the base wont seal up. Ok does the bevel end go up towards the filter or does it go towards the base. This gasket looks like its a bit to big an doesnt fit around the base as snugt as it should. Off course its an aftermarket one so your on your own. I might end up getting a new Ford fuel filter which I should have done in the first place. Should you put the gasket on the filter first or put it on the base. It looks like a poor patent to me. How come it doesnt fit in a grove so it would stay in place. Man help me out guysI am disgusted. Also what size are the bolts that hold the plastic cover in front off the filter. I got to get that off.

The bevel goes up and set it on the base of the filter housing. I like to dry off the two mating surfaces before installing.

Are you talking about the four torx bolts for the drain valve? I don't know for sure but i think i read they are a T-15 or something close to that if those are the ones you are talking about.
