automatic door locking when in motion...

I have a 2006 f350 crewcab diesel and the biggest problem(which isn't huge) that i have with this truck is the auto door locks. i dont know how to turn it off, if it's even possible. when you hit 8-10 mph it locks all 4 doors. and when you stop or put it in park, it doesn't unlock them like other vehicle makes do.

anyone figure out how to turn this feature off? i end up forgetting they are locked and have to walk back around to the drivers door to unlock them all.

That's interesting they don't unlock when the lever goes into park...the cars will do that.

I'd read through the manual, and also ask the dealer...that's weird.

My 2007 SC does the same thing. It's supposed to do that.

Not sure how to stop it.

The owner's manual in my Excursion had instructions on how to shut them off.

At least in mine, the driver's door will not allow you to lock itself with the keys in the ignition and the door ajar.

Yeah, look in the owners manual if you have one. Pretty sure that feature can be disabled. There should be some steps you have to go through just like you do to turn off the beltminder chime.

Deactivate Auto Door Locking

Try this:

Make sure that: IGNITION is OFF and all doors are closed. Complete the following steps within 30 seconds.

1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Press the power door unlock control THREE times.
3. Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF.
4. Press the power door unlock control THREE times.
5. Turn the ignition back to ON. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one long and one short chirp) if the autolock was activated. (Pressing the power door lock/unlock control again will toggle between activate and deactivate)
7. Turn the ignition OFF. The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete.

Here it is ( page 87 in the manual)
To deactivate/reactivate the autolock feature using the keypad
Your vehicle comes with the autolock feature activated. To
deactivate/reactivate this feature:
1. Ensure that the anti-theft system is not armed.
2. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position.
3. Close all the doors, liftgate and cargo doors.
4. Enter the 5-digit entry code.
5. Press and hold the 7 • 8. While holding the 7 • 8, press and release
the 3 • 4.
6. Release the 7 • 8.

The horn will chirp once when the system has been successfully
deactivated.

To deactivate/reactivate the autolock feature using the power door
unlock control
You must complete Steps 1-7 within 30 seconds or the procedure will
have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, you must
wait 30 seconds.
1. Insert the key and turn the ignition to the 4 (ON) position.
2. Press the power door unlock control three times.
3. Turn the ignition from the 4 (ON) position to the 3 (OFF) position.
4. Press the power door unlock control three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to the 4 (ON) position. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will
chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long
chirp) if autolock was activated. Note: Pressing the power door
UNLOCK/LOCK button again will toggle between activating and
deactivating the autolock feature.
7. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position. The horn will chirp once to
confirm the procedure is complete.

Yeah I'd kind of like to neuter that "feature" on my truck, myself........

Edit. Just followed Reford's steps and deactivated mine. Thanks man. I HATED that damed thing

I am sooo thankful

I feel your pain, dude. I am so thankful that the E-series either does not offer that "feature" or someone so graciously disabled it for me prior to purchase. Actually, I don't recall seeing anything in the "stinkin' manual" about it, so maybe the vans don't have it.

Now I gotta get around to killing that beltminder chime. It was great when you could just reach under the dash and pull the buzzer out of its plug.

i did the one using the keypad today and it took only two tries and it was disabled. the first time, i don't think I held down the 3/4 button long enough.
i love it now. i no longer have to remember to unlock them as they lock when taking off.
i wouldn't mind it that much if they locked, as long as when you put it in park, it unlocked them. that is how our envoy does it.

thanks again!

not sure why you have to disable the feature. All you have to do is pull the door handle and the truck unlocks. I love the autolock feature and wish more cars had it. You ever have someone try to jump into your car at a stoplight? Not fun...

i don't live in a bad area. and if i want them locked, then I lock them. no one has ever tried to jump in my car at a stoplight. it's pretty rural here.
i think i stated why i wanted it changed, because although i can get out of my door and it unlocks that door, if i go to the back door or the other side of the truck(crewcab) then i get there and forget that those doors are still locked. then i have to walk around to the drivers door to unlock them all again. i don't always take my keys with me, especially on jobsites, so from the passenger side, there is no way to open them. it becomes a pain, and so i want it disabled. like i have also said before, if ford made it so they unlock when the truck is put in park, then i'd like that a lot better.

I'm on the fence on this one. I like the security aspect because I often have my family with me. It can be a real pain though....I guess I can't have my cake and....well you know.
