New Member with Problem

Hello to all,

Thought I would jump aboard and try to get some answers to my headaches. I got an '03 with the 6.0. The problem I am having with it is that when I get on the pedal to about half way, it feels like the pedal is to the metal and there is no more power. Take off from a start is fine, but once you hit the certain about half way point the power feels like it cuts out there. On the freeway it wont even go past 65 MPH. The exhaust gets a real deep sound like its under a heavy load but not moving any where. The check engine light is not on and has not come on, but I took a code reader and pulled up P2290. The local dealer will not touch the truck since the intercooler went out at 80,000 miles and I decided to put in the Banks one. It also has the K&N intake. Has anybody experienced this? Somebody help please. I am at witts end with this truck. What kind of problems are the '06 and '07's having? Thinking about a trade in.

Welcome to FTE! There's a Distinguished Admin on FTE with a very similar screen name.

A Moderator should be along soon to give you an Official FTE Welcome.

There are several Certified 6.0 Technicians who post and assist with problems such as you're experiencing. Hang in there today and you'll get some great insight into resolving the issue. Have you had any flashes or recall work (wiring harness for example) done on the truck?

It may possibly be a turbo issue, like lack of boost. What psi do you see on the boost gauge when this happens?

Have you changed the fuel filters lately? Has this happened with the same tank of fuel or over several tanks from different stations? Do you use fuel additive?

Some more info will help diagnosis.

Fuel filters changed every oil change. I use the additive from RBP and been have for about a 9 months. Been on the same tank while this has been happening. Just started last week. I am thinking it has to do with something relating to the code that came up P2290. Something with the Injector Control Pressure sensor? not too sure. This is my 1st. deisel.

I had a similar problem before. It was my fuel pump. Have your fuel pressure checked at wot under load. I believe it should be at least 45 psi.

Did some more observation today and when i hit that certain point on the pedal about half way you can feel it just bogg and engine sounds like its under load. I can hold the brake pedal and put the pedal to the medal and only hit about 2000 RPM at the most. Before the rear end would just start to lift up like it wanted to take off. Any other recomendations?

I had an occurance recently that caused me to lose power at just about the same level you describe. In my case it was the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor. I had a problem with the connection on this sensor and the engine would defuel when it got to about 60-65 MPH. An OBD II reader should give you codes to point where your problem is.

The code that came up with the Hypertech tuner was P2290. Something to do with the ICP, Injector Control Pressure sensor. its kind of funny because right before this started happening, i had a problem with the batterys going low and nothing was left on in the truck. I had both batterys tested and alternator checked out and all was good. Batterys are O.K. now and when i took it around the block a couple times just to get let them charge a little i noticed this new problem. Could something have shorted out while trying to crank it with low voltage?

Maybe, but your ICP sensor acting up could be your whole problem. I'm gonna defer to a tech about this problem, but with your mods you listed some of it could be self-inflicted too. DITCH the K&N airfilter--it will ONLY cause you problems if it hasn't already.
