I'm still trying to figure out what to use it for.
A trash bag DUH! LOL... Least thats what I do.. Hook a walmart bag to it because since going from the F150 to this beast I seem to collect trash like a son of gun.. I got enough trash in my back cab to fill a recycle bin.. Course ICE doesnt help me any.. Too cold to dig trash out LOL
Galaxy, great radio, I love mine. Mine is just laying on the hump right now, been waiting for this thread to pop up. I got a 2 pill fatboy and a swr meter as well, so more than just the radio. I will post my solution when I get time to work on it.
I have a Cobra unit that has all controls in the mike. The CB is nothing more than a little box (about the size of a match box) that hides under the dash. In my last truck I used a "cell phone" mount (similar to what someone else commented on earliar). I did have to do a little welding to the mount to reinforce it has the radio was heavier than an intended cell phone.
made a mount for my "nightview" or whatever CB. bolted it to the floor just like the one above. that "nightview" is a good thing and a long time in coming.
Got a Midland handheld from Wally World. Slide the battery pack off and connect cig lighter power and external antenna and I have an all-in-handset like the Cobras. I hang it by the belt clip from the cubby down by right knee. Hooked up to Wilson 1000 mag mount on roof, get very good range. All wires tucked up behind dash makes a pretrty clean setup.
I'm honeslty thinking about one of these.. They are about 60 bucks and I don't have the computer display up top.. So it wouldn't hurt me any..
That is what I used, but I do not have the overhead console. I was not able to get a good picture, I will try later on in the afternoon when I wake up. (BTW, I am not lazy, I work mid shift.)
Where did you find this! I have been looking all over for one.
When i worked at Keystone Automotive there was a company that made those named Shelf-It it think it was a Grobowski company. I'll see if i can get you a part # tomorrow.
Anyhow i have a Bearcat mounted under the dash right under the dash pocket, i'll post pics tomorrow, being that i'm in my jammies now ans it's too cold out there right now.
Good setup. We made a brace similar and mounted dad's 3900 Gold face to it. Difference is we slid the board under the center of the seat in the middle where you do not see it and the radio sits against the seat. Dad has a 6sp manual, so it was the best place to mount. Power is under the rear seat.
We then made a steel L brace and mounted in the bed corner on drivers side. Used a Wilson mark mount, quick disconnect, and Powerstick antenna. SWR needle doesn't move...
I have a Galaxy, also a 88 I used a piece of birch plywood mounted with 2" L brackets to the floor in front of the center seat towards the pass. side to clear the gear shift.I mounted a cobra noise canceling speaker at the bottom of the ashtray .I have it hooked up to a sparrow ( looks to be the same as the old penitrator ) antenna on a large base mag mount centered on the roof just over 1.2 swr on 19 getting out and recieving about 10 -12 miles.
In my '03 I mounted my VHF/UHF "Ham" radio just under the opening in the dash to the lower right of the steering colum. Powered it directly from the battery using #8 wire, fused on both NEG and POS. Antenna is monunted on the roof just above the dome light with a permenent NMO mount. I had to drill a 3/4" hole in the roof for that.
