Question question about ideling

I have been posting questions regarding my 06 f-350 with 6.0 and from what I have read in other threads it sounds like part of my problem with the blue smoke could be from letting my truck idle. Could this be the case? I occassionally let the truck idle for awhile in the AM to let it warm up and sometimes I will get tied up doing something and it may idle for 15+ minutes. The longer it idles the more blue smoke it blows when I take off. I thought it was good to let the truck warm up and with diesels it takes forever. The thing that concerns me is that the truck will occassionaly blow out some blue smoke after ideling just a minute at a stop light, I don't think this should be. BowTieHatr mentioned fuel getting in the oil in another thread, could this be happening with my 6.0? Thanks in advance for any input!
BJ

yea...in the cold diesels get fuel blow by, if you wanna call it that. at an idle, diesels wont heat up and the fuel will run down the cylinder wall into the oil...known as diesel wash....easiest way to cure it is to get a high idle mode for it to idle at least at 1k or more when its idling

You already have a high idle built in. After a few minutes it should start to idle higher. I would think that you had noticed it already, it, the idle, comes down when you step on the brake to shift into gear.

Watch and listen for it tomorrow morning.

Yeah I know that the idle kicks up and down, but my concern is how long should I let it idle and when is too long? The truck blows blue smoke and I am wondering if it is related.
Thanks

Personally, I never let my vehicles "warm up". I choose not to waste fuel, that's my decision though. However, on the rare occasion when it does sit there and run, I have never seen 'Blue' smoke. In fact, I have never seen smoke at all really. I think you have a bonafide problem that needs to be addressed and I don't think it is related to the idle.

The 6.0 has a very good cooling system and I would think that it would take a little longer than the typical gaser to warm up, for those inclined to do so.

I haven't been around in a while so I don't know if you have already asked about the smoke problem, but I would take it in and have it looked at. If I recall correctly, there are several reasons that the 6.0 would blow smoke.

It really is 'mind over matter' concerning the cold. Once you get over the fact that it is cold, its easier to deal with.

I took the truck in a couple of weeks ago and they did the reflash and said that would cure the problem. I must say it isn't as bad, I don't think, but the problem is still there. It was running rough though, and isn't doing that anymore.

My husband has it this morning and had it yesterday. I have been driving his cummins, which I called him this morning and told him I want my truck back! Great engine, but doesn't do you any good when you can't get the damn thing out of park!

Thanks
BJ

why dont you plug it in? that way you have heat. idling does not help these trucks at all. the one i was talking about fuel in the oil was extreme cases not 15 min idling times. are you sure it is blue smoke? not gray or white-gray?

response to BowTieHatr

Thanks for the advice, but I don't have the ability to plug it in or I would. My 02 I could, but my 2005 and 2006 I can't. Yeah it is blue smoke. It blows blue smoke when I first start it then it changes to white after a short period of time. Sometimes after ideling it blows blue smoke when I first take off down the road for awhile. The new conditioner is in it and I am going to see how it goes. It seems to run alright for now. Hopefully it will continue.

Doesn't ford say you shouldn't let a 6.0 idle for more than 10min. Kind of a strange diesel if you ask me.
