I have a 73 Ranchero brake light switch that I can't get to work. I was replacing the power brake booster and master cyl and now I cant clip the brake light switch back onto the pivot (?) It's not the push button type of brake switch that I'm familiar with, so can anyone post some info?
Thanks!
Edit: Need help quick! Otherwise, the Ranchero is undrivable (cop will stop me for having no brake lights!)

In position where? Is there a bracket on the pedal to attach the switch to? I remember that the switch was not "free standing" before I took it out, but I cannot seem to find the location to hold the switch in place.
If I go in this order: washer -> master cyl pushrod -> nylon bushing -> switch over that -> final washer -> pin, it does not work properly.
Does your switch look like the picture in the link? If it does, it has two large holes. The holes in the switch surround the rod coming from the brake booster. The metal arms on the switch with the large holes should be on either side of the rod coming from the booster.
The arm from the booster pushes against the center of the brake switch. The hole in the booster rod is way oversize and sloppy, and the center of the switch rests against the end of the booster rod. When you push on the pedal, it has to take up the slop before it pushes on the booster rod, and this is when it pushes on the brake switch.
Look at the very small picture in the link in the lower left. It gives you an assembled view from above.
The open hole goes in the inside between the pushrod and the washer.
The closed hole goes on the pedal nub before the last washer and then spring clip through hole.
Cool! After a few scrapes on the hand, a few scratches on the head, and a headache from the blood rush while upside-down, the brake light functions! Hurray.
But boy, what a hard job to do for something so "simple." !
