Today i brought in my HPOP that i bought really cheap off ebay. My teacher and i have both never been inside a HPOP. Other than looking at the article on Diesel-Central, i hadn't seen inside one. I spent the afternoon learning and using the 55-ton shop press to essentially blow this pump apart. When i was trying to press the shaft out, my teacher instructed me to push from the front instead of the back, and we soon found out that it was a shouldered race in the pump, the shaft would only come one way... The air-operated press was grunting all it could do, and i was holding the pedal, and POP something blew apart, set a giant spark and something went across the shop. Luckily no one was hurt and we didn't find the small part. After getting it done right, we got it apart, and now i know how to disassmble one. The swash plate is fixed , and it does not pivot. With access to a machine shop, it will NOT be hard at ALL to make a 22-25* swash plate, as long as the pistons are long enough to not come out of their bore. This is a very easy to do mod, from what it looks like. I may still be doing the dual stock HPOP stacked on top of each other, but this is intriguing.
Those who always wondered what happened inside, there ya go. Enjoy.
The 530 HPOP spins in the opposite direction of the stock pump. It could not be used as a direct replacement for our stock one. But, it works quite well stacked on top of a stock one, with a gear that rotates it the other direction.
Has anyone stacked a 530 on top of one of our hpops? Kris i read another post by you and it sounded like you were going to be selling your twin hpop setup when you get it done?
Anyone ever stack the 530 on a stocker? Kris let us know when you get done, I'd definitely be interested in buying a new swash plate or parts for a dual setup. I don't have enough $$ for a stealth or terminator
Nice pics. It's good to see the guts of any automotive assembly.
NOTE ON SAFETY: I'd personally be very concerned working under the supervision of a shop teacher that doesn't fully explain to you the hazards involved in using a press. You can easily make something explode, like you did, and get shot, maimed, or killed by whatever decides to take all that force and go with it.
