Replacing lower ball joints-Awd Mountineer

So i went to get my car inspected today and they showed me that my lower ball joints needed to be replaced before they could pass me. how much effort does this take and how would i go about doing it? i have access to lots of tools but should i waste my time or just pay the 500ish to Midas to get it replaced?

Depends on what your time is worth! I do most of my own work and spend the savings on me, ha-ha. If you do decide to do it get the Moog brand ball joints. You can use a ball joint puller from Autozone and a few hours time and save 3 hundred Get a manual on your vehicle and it will have detailed instructions on the removal and re-installation.

Its not all that easy - you will need to rent/buy a ball joint press you will also need to pretty much complely disassemble the hub assembly

In my area, Midas is famous for telling you that you need what you don't really need.
