I have an 05' F350 dually 2wd. I think I have to replace the wheel bearings because I hear a whinning noise and it is not the tires. After jacking up I can wobble both tires at the 6 and 12 oclock position about 1/4" maybe. Do I have to replace the whole hub like the dealership says or can I just replace the bearings? If the latter then how difficult is it going to be?
On most newer vehicles the bearings are sealed and need to be replaced as an assembly. They were on my 2000 Grand Caravan. Not real sure about these however.
check out timken hub assembly's there cheaper but last longer I used to sell auto parts and that was what we sold that worked, they come with a new spped sensor cable when you buy them.
Went to a mechanic the other day and he told me that starting from the 05' you can just replace the wheel bearing without replacing the whole hub. Going to tear it apart this weekend and find out. I think the dealership is just trying to bend me over without any lube.
On a 2WD F250 or 350 the front wheel bearings are old style, replaceable, adjustable, greaseable bearings. On the 4X4s and F450 and 550 they are sealed and non-serviceable.
