I have a '55 F-100 with a stock 3.92 rear end and want to put in a 9". What I need to know is if the width is the same and any other info that may help me out. I already have 3" u-bolts. What other parts will i need?? Will I still be able to use my wheels? ( 5 on 5 1/2 ) Any info would be helpful.
I have pulled the 9" out of my 57 (1st year). I can measure it up for you if you want, but I'm sure it will fit. I don't think much changed on the frame and body widths. It is 5 on 5 1/2", as I believe most F100's were until 1985. If you want mine, lets talk if you can get to the Memphis area. I think it has a 3.70:1 ratio.
I installed a 9" rear from a 1966 Ford f100 pickup ,other than having to change the spring perch location it was a perfect fit,the rear from the 66 is only a 1/2" different from the stock rear. Looks good in my 1956 ford f100. If you use rear from the 67-up F100 you will find that the axle is alot wider than the 60's rear. "Good Luck and Keep on truckin"
I am in the process of installing the running gear out of a 1970 LTD including the 9 inch rear end in my 54 F100. Unfortunately, the housing is too long. What is the correct width of the housing? What wheel backset do I need to use? I would like to use extra wide fenders if possible for extra tire width and traction. Also looking for the best and economical rear suspension to run for the best weight transfer and best ride. I'm really leaning toward a 4 link with coil over shocks instead of leaf springs. Any info would help.
