Hello new here and I just though I ask for some of y'alls advice. I just don't have that much expirence on rebuilding older trucks.
I have a Friend in TX that has offered to sell me a pretty nice little truck for a good price. It has some mechanical problems but all in all the body is rust free and it has hardly any dents. It has a 351 cleveland in it that wont start and it has been sitting for 2yrs. The story I got was that he went to start it one day and the motor raced. He turned it off and tried to start it again and the engine seized. He opened up the hood and noticed that the airfilter stud was missing. So I guess maybe a hung valve or worse, I'm not sure didn't get the chance to really get into it while on my visit. Other things it needs are fairly simple like rear wheel bearings, tires, transmission linkage, throwout bearing. dump old gas and clean carb. It's a bit of work but the price I believe is pretty good. He is willing to sell it to me for a 1,000.00 bucks.
I got to get it from my friend when I talk to him next. I don't think it's the stock engine. I get back to you with it when I get the numbers and see if he can give me a little more history on it.
If the engine is a 351C, 351M or 400...it will have 8 bolts holding one valve cover on. The fuel pump bolts will be above and below the pump @12 and 6 o'clock.
The pump is located at the left (drivers side) lower front of the engine.
Posting the casting numbers as Dennis suggested will help a great deal.
From the looks of that 4 speed shifter, and its placement, I'd say the trans may have been changed, possibly with the engine.
