xlt seats=back problems

hey guys, well as much as i want to keep my truck FOREVER my docter says my constant back pain is most likely caused by the rock hard seats of my 2006 f-250 xlt (gallery). basically i was wondering if anyone else has had pain form these seats. if so, did going to a lariat help? or do i have to go all the way back to a f-150 . thanks alot

I drove an XLT before I bought my Lariat and hated the seats. That is the sole reason I looked a Lariat. I have back problems as well and the power seat helps so much. It is night and day.

I have back problems, and the seats in my '01 XLT make it BETTER...

Go figure. I have the 40/20/40 cloth front seat with power driver's side.

You can always swap out the seats. Do you have the adjustable lumbar support?

WHAT about the seats is making your back worse? Lower back? Middle? Upper?

I took bullets in Iraq and I have damaged L3-4-5 discs.. The seats in my 04 F250 XLT are amazing.. I use to be in a lot of pain driving my F150 XL.. These seats are amazing.. I have Powerseats both driver/passenger..

I have the captains (buckets) in my F250 XLT PSD 6.0, with the power drivers side and lumbar support. I can drive for 16+ hours and not have a problem with back pain.............

One thing my Dad(!) showed me. If you have back pain while driving, take your billfold out of your back pocket. Believe or not, your billfold will tilt your hips, causing back pain. I tried it and it works...........

I'd like to say thank you for your service, defending me and mine. I'm glad you've made a full recovery. If there is anything I can do please let me know

Thanks.. It was a long road.. Spent some time at Walter Reed, was told I'd never walk again.. But by the grace of God I am and I'm doing better.. Just left the service Oct 31st, 06.. Now I'm a Network Engineer in Austin, TX making about 3 times more then what the service gave me.. Of course I miss wearing my uniform.. I held in there.. I was shot during the start of the War, spent the next 3 years fighting to make it.. So I hung on as much as I could..

IMHO...all the SD seats are terrible...compared to the competition. If possible...might want to wait (again if you can) for the All NEW '08. They are making a lot of improvements...and I am hoping the seats are one of them.

Good luck with your back...

I second the captains chairs recommendation. Have them in my 2007 XLT Sport, love them. It's almost like driving while sitting in your favorite arm chair.

I have an 07 SD Lariat with the leather captains chairs and while I do like the seats, when I sat in the high end GM Duramax I thought those seats were better. Don't get me wrong, I love my truck and there were many factors that pushed me to this one over the GM, but I do think their seats are better than these.

Of course, as soon as I buy my new truck I see where the new (08) seats look much more like the GM stuff...

Even with all that, I still think mine are comfortable.

thanks alot guys for the quick info. it sounds like i might be able to stick with an xlt, as long as it has the power seats. as it is, my main problem (other than stiffness) is the back ajustments are to far apart. one setting has me sitting up straight as a board, and the next one has me so far back i look like im doing a ghetto lean. thanks again guys, looking at an xlt could save me some money.

Saggy springs

Check to see if the seat leans in one direction. When we bought our '01 XLT used last fall both the drivers side and passenger seats leaned towards their respective window. I used a fix I got on Mercedesshop (fixed our 300TD). The fix is to put pool noodles (the things you float around the pool on) between the springs and the foam where it is sagging. Even seat = no more sore back! Hopes this helps anyone ailing from a bad back like mine.
