A hydro-boost brake system is normally found on larger trucks. It uses the power steering pump to supply hydraulic pressure to a hydro-boost unit which then applies the pressure to the brake master cylinder. It can replace
a vacuum operated brake booster.
Here's an example of its use.
If you install a high performance camshaft you can end up with poor brake performance due to not enough engine vacuum to operate a vacuum brake booster.
One remedy is to retrofit to a hydro-boost system. The vacuum brake booster is replaced by a hydro-boost unit along with the replacement of the power steering pump since it now needs to supply hydraulic pressure to the power steering gear box and the hydro-boost unit.
