MC,

Hi and welcome to the best ford site on the net. I have to apologize for AX.. he's mislead you somewhat... only us 'darksiders' have cookies on our side. We're the 'non-stock' builders who bend to no man's rule. UNLESS AX is providing cookies for the stock guys

You might try posting another thread with your question in the title. some of us just scan the titles and open what we're interested in or can help with. Try something like "Need specs/weight on 48-50 F-1" . That should catch someone's eye.

I think PennDick has those specs... I only have them for a '53. Check out the Motorhaven link for a place to purchase your shop manuals...it helps support the site..

Look thru the articles (button at top of page on nav bar) and do use the search function...the more specific your search the closer your results will be..

enjoy

Thanks!
The actual weight of a 48-52 F-1 is somewhere between 3025 and 3050 pounds depending on the engine (V8 or I6) sans bed and the wheelbase is 114 inches. An F-2 is between 3500 and 3650 pounds sans bed and 122 inch wheelbase, and an F-3 is between 3700 and 3900 pounds sans bed and also 122 inches. I don't know what the 8 foot beds weigh for the F-2s and F-3s but slightly more than 300 pounds I would suppose. Generally, the stake body beds were heavier than pickup beds. This is from my notes so no guarantees as to accuracy from the management!

You guys are awesome! thanks for all the info...

My hopes are to find one fairly solid and mostly original, don't care if it's running.
Make it a mild custom with the age-old "don't do anything that can't be put back to stock in a weekend" mentality.
Was curious about the approximate weight because I'm researching stroker engines right now, so that helps a bunch with my decision.

If you figure 4K# wet you are in the right ballpark.

Heres a list of curb weights for 1952 models that I pulled out of my dealer brochures
(full of fuel and water, and based on 6 cylinder engine, add 40lbs w/ V-8)

F-2 3218-3272 lbs
F-3 3429-3460 lbs
F-4 3862-4020 lbs
F-5 4188-4710 lbs
F-6 4590-4845 lbs
F-7 5940-6385 lbs
F-8 6320-6805 lbs

Heres a few uncommon ones
F-3 Parcel Delivery w/ windshield front end 3100-3260 lbs
F-5 Parcel Delivery w/ windshield front end 3945-4355 lbs
F-5 and F-6 School Bus Chassis 4045-4555 lbs

Unfortunately I don't have a dealer brochure for the F-1's (very hard to find), but can you tell whats in the rest of my collection..

Any more questions, just ask

Thanks again guys!!

I don't want to make any mistakes when I buy a truck, so I'm gonna research it to death first!
Even though I'm gonna customize it to an extent when I finally get one, I fully understand the importance of not doing anything irreversible, and all stock parts removed will be kept and stored.
That being said, what are the most important points to look for when buying a '48-'50 Truck?
As in are beds almost impossible to come by, so try to find one with bed intact etc. etc. etc.
Thanks!!

I don't quite know what the actual title since I'm missing the first 2 pages but it talks about all the 1951 Mercury truck models and shows a frame diagram with specs about the chassis. When I get my computer fixed, I'll send you the scans of it. Maybe you could get some higher quality scans of your 52 F-2 brochure and we'll trade.

I just need to get a good scanner (and a 52 F-1 brochure) and I could scan you copies of the whole 52 truck line w/ individual model brochures
