Is there a point for these new 3-valve 5.4’s in which everything falls into place and the gates open and a weird iridescent glow shines down from the sky and the engine magically improves? The only reason I ask is because the midrange is disappointing and I’m only getting 10mpg empty. I’d like to see 12, as that’s what my 2001 was getting doing the same work.
I've got a 06 SCab FX4 with the 5.4 3 vlv and I'm avg. 15 mpg. Just over 2000 miles on it. I couldn't be happier. My 99 Expedition was down to 10-12 mpg when I traded her in but she also had 198,000 miles on her.
I have an 06 Scab,5.4, with 5200 miles. Since new I've averaged 14-15 mpg. I don't drive it hard, nor do I baby it. Much of the driving is local since I'm only 4 miles from work. Most of the driving has been with the A/C on.
Well when I picked the truck up it had 405 miles and the computer said 14mpg. Now the window sticker says it was delivered to a dealer roughly 350 miles from the dealer I bought it from, I’m assuming the highway miles between the two contributed to the 14mpg. I have a few sandbags in the bed and no cover, though one should be here any day now. I’m sure the stations are on winter fuel by now. I don’t drive it terribly hard. The engine seems quite a bit louder then day one, but other then that runs smooth and strong, except for midrange like 2500-3000 rpm. Not to say it craps out, just in comparison to the 2 valve it seems a lil weaker there. I know the computer is reasonably close because the hand calculations come out spot on. Anyways, sorry for the long post, just trying to figure out why I’m having a hard time staying in the double digits
