I have no idea if my iah is intact. I'm not sure what it looks like either. I have to do a search and see what it looks like. Thanks for the lead and I think it is mostly the really cold that does it. When it gets to around 20 it doesn't do it then.
The IAH is the little sensor that was in your stock airbox before you put the 6637 filter in. Unless you cut the wire or something, it's probably still there, somewhere.
If it's only smoking white for a bit while it's warming up, that's fine, but if it's smoking white still while you're driving, that seems a bit abnormal. If that's the case, might wanna make a new thread and see what folks think about that.
Does installing the 6637 filter cause "hot" air from the engine to be injected?
Is hot air ok? Or is cold better? I thought hot air caused a loss of HP?
I've seen several guys in here say that they've measured the air temps under the hood, and at travel speeds there is very little difference in air temp under the hood and that outside. Other guys have gone ahead and built some homemade heat shields, though. Depends on what you want to work on.
In terms of "fit", I left my stock air box bottom under the battery, which has those two "fingers" sticking out that makes it difficult to arrange the 6637 without hitting the hood. What I discovered was that if I tilt the filter up and nestle the bottom of the closed end between the two "fingers", I get a good fit and the hood closes just fine. My install is in my gallery, but the final result is below. You can see how I had to do the tilt.
Your description is perfect F250, that's exactly how mine sits. I have the yellow duralast battery and I used yellow wire loom over my coolant filter. It looks really nice. A yellow filter cover like yours would really dress it up now.
Yeah... I really like my cover... only wish it was outside the hood so more folks could see it. I made the bag and logo myself and did a simple iron-on transfer. I still want to take up a seam or two to get a little tighter fit, but it's fine for now.
I was doing some checking at my local NAPA store and some other auto part stores. I was asking for the NAPA 6637 or WIX 46637, and the only cross referenced filter that came up was a FRAM CA6818 - cost around 40$, but they would have to order it. Two stores came up with this #.
Not satisfied with this, I tried to cross the filters on the web and found a list of filters reffered to as "B.H.A.F." Big Honking Air Filters. Here is a list of different manufacturers that crossed with the FRAM CA6818:
FLEETGUARD - AH19037 DONALDSON - B105006 AFE - 20-40044
BALDWIN - PA2820 HASTINGS - AF1012 UNI - 908
CARQUEST - 87790 JOHN DEERE - PMAH19037 BIG A - 93790
CATERPILLER - 3I0005 FLEETRITE - AHR819037
LUBER-LINER - LAF2531 and a different # for NAPA - 2790 and
WIX - 42790
Sorry it is so long, I just wanted to throw these out there if someone needed one in a pinch.
P.S. I just ordered a WIX 46637 from the link & was curious if a 4" pvc sch-40 would work in lieu of the exhaust?

Actually, yes and no. I have tried both. They will work but I have had to crank down so tight on the clamps that I did not feel comfortable with it. I have some rubber "bands" I guess you could call it, over 4" exhaust tubes that seal real nice without cranking away. Don't ask for a source. Some more junk that I collected like all the other junk I collect in the tool shed. They worked perfectly here.
Is your IAH (intake air heater) intact? It's purpose is to reduce white smoke at idle. It's not a necessary thing, but can help with what you're describing.
Regardless, as long as the intake air temp sensor is still in-tact, the new filter shouldn't effect or cause white smoke at all.
Your IAT or intake air temp sensor should have been disconnected from the stock filter box and secured to the general filter area, usually the brake master cylinder lines via a zip tie. The AIH is rarely activated, and in a manual tranny only when the parking brake is engaged, temps are cold and a bunch of other variables blah blah exist, which is why mine is gone.
In other words, Tenn... if we have an automatic transmission, we will never see any conditions that allow the AIH to operate? Just asking for clarification, because I've already removed mine.

Actually, I believe it operates when the truck is in park(doesn't matter if park brake is set), Oil temp below 131deg, air temp below 31deg. I'm not 100% sure on these numbers, doesn't matter to me anymore, mine is gone as well.
The PVC has a smaller I.D. due to the thickness, I actually had mine setup without and pipe. I just forced the filter on and clamped it. If fit tight and worked fine. I wanted it to lay in the "pocket" a little more level and flat, so I bought a 4" 45* stainless steel elbow on EBAY. I cut off about 3" from both ends, and cleaned up the edges and wiggled it around till I got the fit I wanted. It holds good, and looks good.
I just wanted to thank TENN01PSD350 & DMUELLER71 for the pvc info. I had a scrap piece of 4" pvc lying around. I will be getting the exhaust pipe for this mod.
