What was wrong with your truck when you bought it?
mine is a completely origional 300 six 3-on-tree '79 F100 I bought from the origional owner for $500 that had 100,000 miles on it. Had a large dent on the hood from a tree limb, the shift tube needed to be replaced, the heater lever lost a clip and just hung there, the wipers didn't work. All were easy fixes. He had just put new tires on the truck that cost nearly as much as what I spent for it, including the matching spare.
What I've done so far:
-replaced foor mat with carpet
-installed dash overlay
-door panels
-Offy intake, Holley 390, and EFI manifolds
-New exhaust for above
-replacement factory hood
-bed mat
-3 spoke Grant steering wheel (freebie)
-tailgate guard (freebie)
-tailgate FORD trim piece (freebie)
-'89 wheels/trim rings
pics are in my gallery

1977 F-150 Supercab Longbed 2wd
351m C6
bought it for 850
when i bought it, it burned a quart of oil a week, shifted really hard, and barely ran, front bench was all ripped up, no carpet, dashpad was just gone
had it running decent for 3 months, new timing chain, carb, and new plugs every 2 weeks
now wont run at all...no compression trans is almost completely gone huge vaccum leaks and probably a cracked block (i got so fed up with dumping money into it i decided to give up and didint put any anti-freeze in it during this past icestorm)
as you can see, everthing is wrong with it now
and i dont plan on fixing it either, not worth it since i never really wanted a 2wd

Mines a 76 F-100 4x4 shortbed. It was in good condition when I got it but I've still had to do some work to it.
Replaced powersteering hose (leaking), waterpump, timing chain and gears, belts, carb, plugs, wires, distributor, rotor cap, and ignition module. Also I took out the dash panel and fixed most of the connections to the lights.
things I still have to do, I need to replace the power steering gearbox, E-Brake Equalizer rod. and last but not least the clutch. Other than the Equalizer rod, i'm not looking forward to fixing the other stuff. lol

When I first got my 1973 F250 longbed in October of 2005, here's what was wrong with it:
1. Bad radiator
2. Bad water pump
3. Bad carburetor
4. BIG oil leak, leaking about a quart a half-hour.
5. Fuel gauge didn't work.
6. Aux. fuel tank filler hose leaked pretty bad.
7. Weak ignition
8. Rusty pickup bed
9. No license plate light on rear bumper
10. Old, incorrect sized tires
11. Inside dome light didn't work
12. Radio didn't work
13. Cracked radiator fan shroud
14. Interior was DIRTY
15. One of the exhaust pipe gaskets on the manifold was leaking exhaust.
16. Brake lights didn't work.
17. Turn signals didn't work.
18. Bad/warped steering wheel.
19. Missing shift indicator on steering column
20. Missing glove box cable
21. Rear slider window was missing lock, so it was unable to lock shut. Also it was leaking water.
22. Power steering pump was leaking.
23. Engine leaking antifreeze from freeze plugs.
24. Fuel gauge tank switch didn't work.
25. Missing ***** on heater switches.
26. Several other small things
Fixed EVERYTHING since then, except for some antifreeze leaking from one of the freeze plugs, but it's VERY minor.
Runs like a top ever since I fixed all those things, which cost about $1600 to fix everything...well worth it though!

Mine wasn't too bad (compared to some of the others on here at least), but here is the short list.
Repaired problems:
Steering (could barely keep it on the road)
No heat - blown blower motor
Most exterior lights didn't work, no turn signals or brake lights
no horn
bad front brakes
mismatched tires (4x4)
dents, dents and more dents
tailgate didn't work
cracked windsheild
missing seat foam
Wal-Mart black carpet on floors and headliner, black painted door panels (yellow truck with original brown dash)
faded repaint poorly prepped and applied
exhaust system with no muffler (just cat)
Pre '78 steering column and wheel ('79 truck)
shocks and steering stabilizer
Still to do:
new heater controls
new grill shell
day/nite rearview mirror
Purchase price - $975
repairs and parts - $3500 +/-
owned for 1 year, 10k so far
cheaper than new...

Lets see
1977 f-150 short box 4x4 initial price $650 about $600 in replacement stuff so far
351m needs rebuild
cab was shot
frame had a crack, fishplated it
box is junk
was able to reuse right fender, drivers door, and inner fenders
tranny and t-case will be reused
hood, left fender, cab, dash, steering colum all from different trucks!
1978 f-350 dually with 17 foot jerr dan rollback bed
Initial price $1,000
hauled it home on a ford super duty with a 20' deck
400 is a reman with under 5k on it 2002 reman tags on it
np 435 slips out of gear
every time i use it i blow another hydraulic line
needs brakes
bushings in the front end were shot
somone cobbed an 1988 cab and front clip on it, that will be changed as soon as a donor is availible.
wiring is a total disaster
cant complain though, i've had a lot of fun with both trucks

When I got mine the linkage to the carb would stick ...but only sometimes! (of course, not on the test drive though!
) I would get on the freeway and be tooling along around 60, take my foot off the gas and the thing would just keep on going! I had to quick stamp it to the floor to release it. Coulda been a real problem though!

Where can I start?
My dad bought my truck for $1500 in Nov 04. Only 88000 miles. He had told me it would be mine when I got older (I was 15 at the time). Well I started working on it:
Nasty moldy carpet
Ripped seat
Old stereo (with house speakers lol)
Bad vac. advance
Bad acccel pump
Miss in ignition
Bad ignition box
Old Plug wires and plugs
Fuel pump went out eventually
Battery went bad
Starter solenoid went out
Clutch rod was epoxied, so it eventually broke (to my dad's surprise, while driving it)
Really rough body
Ugly green paint (out and in)
Window regulator out of adjustment on drivers side (would drop glass)
Leaky rear sliding glass
Bad Wheel cylinders
Bad master cylinder
Backup light switch broke
Rear main seal leaking
Valve covers leaking
Clogged fuel filter
Tailgate from junkyard (original was stolen from previous owner)
I've probably left out quite a few things, but you all get the idea..
Before I got it painted people used to think i was crazy to put so much money it my truck.. I think it was well worth it.. I get many compliments now.. I drive it everyday and it only has 103000 original miles on it, and I wouldn't have it any other way.. even with only 10 MPG

My truck was perfect compared to some of y'alls.
-Old gas
-Bad accelerator pump
-No heat ducts
-Really weird carpet
-Seat stitching torn on drivers side
-Really loose steering
-Cracked windshield
-12 year old tires, one of which blew on the 200 mile journey home
-Sticking choke
-Gas gauge doesnt work
-Cracked dash visor
-Rear bumper in dire need of painting
-PVS broken and disconnected
-Horrible excuse for DIY wiring
-Master cylinder went bad soon after buying it.
The battery is 8 years old but I swear it could crank for a good 2 minutes
On the test drive I got it up to 50 and then it started loosing power. Could only go 20 with lots of feathering on the way back. Most people around here would have gotten out and backed away slowly.

my 79 f250 ranger, well lets see...
- had two mice living in it (caught one, scared the other one out when I fired it up the first time)
- had a full tank of varnish and a clogged carburetor screen, plus a bad battery and voltage regulator
- steering shaft u-joint was rusted stuck
- transmission linkage was out of alignment
- wore out 351 smoked
- rear main seal leaked
- power steering pump had a broken bracket so the belts squeaked everytime you turned
- ripped up seat, tattered headliner, fuel gauge didn't work, some rust here and there, ugly running boards, dry-rotted tires, and some more stuff i cant think of. But overall I LOVE IT!!!

1973 F250 4X4 Custom---360,4speed,no power steering, power brakes or a/c, Had a am radio and 8.75-16.5 mud and snow tires and a rubber floormat. Date built August-1972--date bought November--1972, Nothing was wrong with it. as i am the one and only owner
- Manual steering with a 13-inch steering wheel with 35-inch tires. Not a good combo.
- Leaking gasket at third member.
- Lots of surface rust
- Cobbled dual front shock setup
- Twisted rear dock bumper
- Bent front bumper.
- Shadetree, home-made trailer hitch
- Cracked left grill insert
- Bent mirror brackets
- Dented grill shell
- Faded, dirty, and cracked light lenses
- Rust inside the front turn signal housings
- “Add-a-Leaf” were just that, leafs cut sourced from an unknown vehicle, cut to length with a torch
- Exhaust leak at driver's manifold
- A low-buck, severely crimped dual exhaust system
- Coolant recovery can was a plastic jug
- Missing side moldings
- Rust holes at each corner of both doors
- Rust-through at left rear wheel arch. The right wheel arch only had pinholes.
- Left hood hinge bolts (2) stripped out (turned out to be the capture nuts were no longer captured)
- Missing air vent door
- Rust-through the left inner fender directly below the hood hinge
- Miscellaneous dents, dings, and thin paint.
- Filthy, filthy, filthy. Dried red mud everywhere.
- Engine was canted over towards the passenger side thus resulting in a cracked Z-bar bracket (engine side).
I can say it best as the only things that were not broken or worn out were the uh, well uh, the uh....hang on a second I know something was good, it had to be the uh...dang it, it's all worn out, oh wait the cassette player with the Johnny Cash "Ring of Fire and Boy named Sue" tape in it was cranking right along.
With mine 74 F250 Crew all factory with 30,500 miles on it:
Drivers rear tire would not hold air
Windshield cracked
Big dent on the roof & small dents all over
No bed, tailgat or taillights
Rear Bumper Brackets were cut rough cut
Emergency Brake cables hanging
Drivers fender pushed in against cowl would rub door when open
Cowl was pushed in
1 Tow hook missing
Passenger Grill cracked
Antenee loose
Drip railing bad all over
rear passenger window crank missing
front bench seat tore on both sides
Had wood screws an pieces of wood used as trim around glovebox
Throw out bearing bad
clutch burned up Trans had teeth broke off
Would not go into gear unless turned off t change gears due to clutch an throw out bearing bad
U joints bad
Voltage regulator bad
battery cables backwards on it
starter bad
Solonoid bad
Radio wired to the heater
Radiator hose bad caused it to overheat
That is all I can think of so far this is the good one. The Mustang only thing good is the radiator support, trunk lid, dash everything else needs replaced.
