I am looking for some advice/info on a good after market exhaust for my '90 B2. I got the original 2.9L in her but plan on doing many upgrades/mods when I get to CO this Spring. I do plan on at least rebuilding the engine but I also may get a remanufactured 2.9. I would like to hear what anyone would have to say about a decent exhaust to complete the truck.
I have heard that some of you have put aftermarket exhaust on your B2 and it sounds like a sewing machine or a rice burner...I don't want that!
Any and all advice/info will be greatly appreciated and definetly listened to!
What I did was I found a good local muffler shop and had a 2 1/2" cat-back single exhaust custom-made by the shop. Not sure if I should have had a different muffler put on, i.e. either a glass-pack or something more like a Flowmaster. Mine has a joe-neric (I can't remember the manufacturer) turbo muffler on it, and it's a little louder than stock, but nothing like a coffee-can rice-burner exhaust! I also plan in the future to have the same shop make a custom Y-pipe and install a hi-flow cat and maybe switch to a glasspack muffler. The big thing with this is to find a good, reasonably-priced local shop that does good work.
I have also seen some folks that bought the rear exit dual exhaust on lmctruck.com for a ranger and adapt it to install on a BII.
you can get a set of headers for the 2.9L for about 200 bucks. i have had 4 bIIs all 2.9L and have used a variety of exhaust set-ups. the first one all stock- no thrills. on another i ran open headers - not emission legal, very loud, lost some torque on the bottem end. i have droped off the cats and run 2" duals with glass packs and 2 1/2" tips out the back. nice throaty tone, again lost a lil torque off the bottem, and not emission legal. the last set up i used was 2 1/4 pipe from behind the cats into a glass pack and single tip. had a nice sound littly ricey but still had lots of pep.
