Snowking and I gutted the 68 F-350 tow truck. We stripped off the wheels, front hubs, steering column, engine accessories and rear axle in -20'C weather outside.
Sounds like you had a fun time once the truck left here and I had to miss it all.
Once I got the all the snow in front of it moved out of the way the truck disappeared never to be seen again!
Cleaned snow with the tractor/blade and the bobcat all day. Also fed/bedded cows. A few friends made about 300 # of sausage here today - about 6 guys working and a few empty bottles to show.
If you're really truely dying to see it I can do the next best thing and make a deal on the cab and chasis if your yard is missing a beatup F350.
I know my mom is so happy it's here in the middle of the yard till spring.
With all this snow it can't really be pushed to the side espically because no wheels or axles, eh 51D.
Oh well all for the best. Having either a 1940 Ford or a 1949 International 2 ton tow truck will be cool.
I didn`t say I missed it, just said it disappeared over the hills and far away.
Moms, wives and women in general are some how like that when it comes to the old tin laying around, they would sooner it goes away and never comes back.
HEY! holdup, the weekends not over yet. i didnt do anything today, 4H fun day went sledding down the mountain.....thats rigth mountain, darn fine one at that, hit my head, got a little dizzy, thats about it.oh yeah, fixed my Vedder Transport belt buckle, just in case though, anyone know if you can braze pewter?
Working nights all weekend, but managed to frame in the first partition wall in my basement. Gotta make spot for a semi to turn around in my yard for Tuesday. Got a load coal coming.
Slept til 2 this afternoon. Was still feeling tired. Still fighting the cold hanging in there. I think it was a full week of work at new job. Body hot use to yet.
So I did dishes and cleaned up some of the basement. Getting satelite on Monday for tv and Internet. So I will have a new e-mail address later and fasterservice. Also more expense.
Working on a friends 80 4x4 chevy truck this weekend (I know its a swear word in here but...) which is a 454 needing a cam swap. This thing has a tendency to burn down camshafts in less than 50,000 kms. So my brother and I agreed to take this challenge on to "remedy" this problem. We're installing a 396 ss hyd. cam and weiand intake with a 750 edelbrock and headers too. We honed the lifter bores out with a brake cylinder hone till the lifters slid through effortlessly, many were stiff before. We lubed the cam up with moly grease and lifters too, add gm's break-in additive which has zinc for good cam break-in, did some valve train and spring work to the heads, and pre-lubed the engine properly -- so we'll see when we get it running what it will be like!! Of course we'll run the engine properly at first fire up for proper cam break-in.
Don't think Fords had this cam burning trouble really -- did they? Built many motors before and never had this trouble.
Worked all weekend. Still here cold but at least its warmed up to -29C
First Try you probably can't braze pewter melting point is only around 750F or lower I think it depends on the composition of the pewter and I think brazing rods would be around 1150 so even if you got some of the lower temp brass rods I don't think it would work. You might be able to silver solder it using a small propane torch and extreme care.
Triied to start the bobcat again. Still cranky with the cold. Put battery charger on it and covered with 2nd tarp to warm the engine. It is suspose to be warmer tomorrow.
Otherwise have to vacuum the house, move TV cabinet out so the satilite guy can hook things up tomorrow.
I also tore down a Renault engine that I'm sell for parts. Rod went out the side. A guy in Vermont wants the head, camshaft, rocker arms, crankshaft and valve cover. I wish I could get rid of the rest of the car. I sold the Name plates to a guy in England. The car is a 72 Renault R17 model sprts car. A total loss car. Has lots of good parts and body. So contacted the renault car club and been slowly selling the parts.
Other than that, being here and playing with the dogs or reading books.
