Thanks to all! I believe firesoutmatt may be correct in that it was just a gelling problem. No more acting up, Iv'e burned out about 1/2 tank of fuel in the last couple of days
Everything I'm reading indicates to me that the gelling doesn't present a problem until it hits the filter. Is that correct? It doesn't cause problems in the lines or selector valve or even the lift pump - just the filter?
It is meant for heating WVO, but I don't see why it wouldn't work just as well for bio-blends. With the right thermostat you could set it to come on only when the fuel temp is < 50 degrees maybe.
To all who replied: I believe firesoutmatt was correct in that I got ahold of some bad fuel. We just got though a few days of weather that was colder than it was when I was having problems with my fuel gelling up. I had about a 25% blend of my own bio fuel in the tank (which is a considerable amount more than I had in the tank last time). I had no gelling problems. One day the temp in the morning was -5. Truck ran perfect. Had white bottle PS in the tank mixed according to label, same as last time. I don't remember where I bought fuel at when I encountered my problems, but from now on I know where I will buy it.
Glad to see it worked out for you. It's been down to 10 degrees and lows were around -2 degrees. I'm still amazed my truck starts fine and runs great no matter how cold it gets around here. Heck I'm not sure there is a cord on my block heater havn't seen it yet.
Bad fuel will make the best truck a nightmare be very carefull where you buy fuel .
