Another Ignition switch thread
No spring back from start position, doesn't reach start position.
The electrical switch itself has good spring return.
There's alot of play in the switch linkage under the steering wheel.
A quick question for those of you that have been through this.
Is the piece of metal indicated by the red arrow broken?
It's shiny, clean & rough ... appears to have recently broken off.
No pieces found.
The shop manual doesn't show this area very well.
It does seem that the actuating arm could use a little 'guidance' to keep
the actuating force going straight down the column to the switch.
No other parts appear to be worn, bent or broken.
I'm still looking at it & searching the MANY threads on this topic.
to get it out you will need to pull the tilt pins. to pull the pins, all you need to do is screw a small screw into the tilt pins, and then pull them out with a pair of pliers.
I just called AutoZone to ask about an "ignition actuator cam". The guy asked me where's it go?(deep under the steering wheel), what's it do?(don't really know), what's it look like?(don't know - it's vanished!). I really couldn't help him to help me.
Do you know if they should carry it?
If so, what THEY would know it as?
i don't know what they call it though. it may be an ignition switch lower actuator.
i know when i go to the ford dealer, i tell them i want an ignition actuator cam, and they have them in stock for around $14
Hopefully, I can handle it from here.
I will probably remove mine, take it down to AutoZone & discuss it in person.
If they have it, I can get it done this weekend.
If I have to go through a dealer - It'll be down through some 'work days'.
I will post a follow-up for all to benefit.
All in all things went pretty good. Of course, I could do my second one alot faster.
Ford Truck Enthusiasts is a great resource!
the first one i did was done by the book, on a bench. it took 6 hours to do. the second time was 2 weeks later on a neighbors truck, and took 4 hours in the truck. since then, i have done at least 10 of them, and can now do it in about 2 hours, with a coffee break thrown in.
