I have been thinking about what to do for an exhaust on my truck. I an considering doing 4" pipe, small muffler and exit thru a 5" tip just in front of the rear tire. I was wondering if anyone else has done one similar to this and if so, any feedback. I'd also like to see some pics of any, it get a better idea of the look. Thanks.
A good friend of mine has his exhaust exiting the side before the rear tire, he likes it alot and I think it looks pretty trick. The only drawback is the exhaust soot on the side of his bed (his truck is white). Go for it

That's what I was thinking of. I was gonna angle the tip down a little to try and keep soot off the bed tho. My truck is black, so it wont show as bad as white.
I have 4" straight pipe to a 5" angle cut tip on my 97. i got the idea from a friend with an 01 with that same setup. both of our trucks are red and neither of us have trouble with soot on the bed. over time (and depending on how much i lay my foot into it) ill have a thin film of soot on my rear rim, thats it though. I LOVE the sound.
I have mine stet up like that and since I got my DP tuner my rim looks lkes its been powdercoated haha, in the summer Ill get a full 5 inch system so I dont wreck my nice rims
I have side exit 4" just before the passenger rear. Great if you really want to hear your motor and turbo.
My only complaint is just like the other guys are saying, the soot. That tire gets sooted and I have a really hard time keeping the tire and wheel clean. I have also noticed some discoloration on the body panel within about 4" of the pipe.
Thanks for the pic Buick... Thats exactly what I was thinking of doing. Except mine isn't a dually. Looks great. Do you have a hard time keeping the tire and bed clean? Is it noisy being closer to the cab?
Not any more noisy than before. I actually put the muffler back on (neighbors had a newborn) and you can still hear the turbo clearly....CLEARLY. As far as soot goes, I mounted the pipe is several different angles to get a grip on that. I still get minimal soot deposites on the rim, but as much as I wash the truck you will never see it. The tire does not get hot because that pipe is as far out as the tire and it seems the exhaust flow goes right by it. It cost me about $20 in pipe and the welding was free.
