Ball joint question

I am needing to replace the ball joints on my 97 F150 w/ 195800 miles. I am wondering if I should replace the uppers while doing the lowers. I know in doing the uppers it is the whole upper control arm that has to be replaced. I have read a few posts and some guys have never done the uppers. Thanks for the recomendations

I had my lower joints replaced back about 35k miles ago and I am now at 163K. The uppers were fine.
My truck is a 97 also.

With the amount of miles you have, if they have never been replaced then they will probably need it soon. I have a 00' with 133k and I just replaced upper, lower *****, all tierods, and sway bar links. for the uppers, yes I got new control arms with joints in them. I go to Oriely Auto for most of my stuff. Moog suspension parts are really good.

If you only do the lowers, just remeber that the uppers will wear out a little quicker with new lower joints.

Thanks for the replies guys. I had the sway links done last year. I have read that the Moog parts are really good.

Moog should also have replaceable ball joints in their replacement upper control arms, so you'll only need to buy the arms once.

Then it sounds like I'll go with moog parts. I like the sound of the upppers being replaceable.
